On Sun., Oct. 23, the Marist community
welcomed 14 Argentinan exchange
students and their chaperones. Marist
Brother Carlos Huidoero and English
teacher Mr. Leandro Carreno, along with
nine boys and six girls, will join the Marist
community for a total of two weeks before
leaving on Sat., Nov. 5. The students are
from a Marist school in Buenos Aires
called Colegio Champagnat.

The students are coming because they
want to experience life in the United States
at an American Marist school and compare
it to their lives back home.

Marist President Brother Patrick
MacNamara, who is constantly in touch
with Marist schools around the world, was
asked if our school would like to host the
group. He gladly extended the invitation.

The 14 students will live with Marist
host families. During their stay, they will
shadow at Marist for five days, following
sophomores, juniors and seniors. They
will also spend time sightseeing around the
Chicago area. They have tours and activities
already planned so the students will get
good insights on life in Chicago.

Senior Daniel Weise, who will be hosting
one of the students, said, “It’ll be great
experiencing Spanish ouside of the classroom
and having a student living with me
for two weeks. Outside of attending daily
classes at Marist, they will also see Navy
Pier, The Field Museum, Millenium Park
and other places downtown.”

Foreign language department chair Mrs.
Erica Nathan-Gamauf said, “By having
these students come here we will learn
about their lives, attitudes, beliefs and volumes.
It reminds our students that not everyone
speaks English.”
