Cheerleaders Flip Season Around With Strong Conference Showing

It is said that the road to the top is long and winding. In the case of the Oak Lawn cheerleaders, there have been a few bumps along the way as well. However, that all changed over the weekend and the girls flipped things around to earn second place during the conference meet at Argo on Saturday and then again placing second at the Oswego East ICCA cheerleading competition on Sunday. With the strong performance, the cheerleaders qualified for the ICCA State Championships to be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, in Springfield, IL.

The junior varsity team shined too this past weekend by finishing third at the conference meet and putting on a great performance at the Oswego East competition.

“This is the first year since 2005 that teams have competed in the ICCA championship, and qualifying has been a dream come true for our varsity team,” cheerleading coach Christina Castillo said. “Please congratulate both teams on a job well done this weekend and wish the varsity team luck as they compete this coming Saturday at the IHSA sectionals, which will be held at Riverside-Brookfield High School. We are hoping for another state-qualifying announcement!”
