Despite playing for bragging rights and, possibly, the South Suburban Conference Red Division crown, volleyball players from Richards and Shepard high schools united before their match yesterday for a common cause.
Ditching their school colors for pink, the freshman, sophomore, and varsity teams posed together for a photo that symbolically concluded their ‘Volley for the Cure’ campaign. The match provided the final act following weeks of fund raising and awareness efforts about the risks of breast cancer.
Shepard won the South Suburban Conference match, but both teams have enjoyed fine seasons. Shepard improved to 13-6 overall and 9-2 in conference, while Richards dropped to 18-4 overall and 8-3 in SSC play.
