Woman and 13-Year-Old Girl Shot at Gas Station
Two females were shot in the 9900 block of Vincennes. A short time later shots were exchanged between a suspect and an off-duty officer, police said.
Two females were shot Sunday afternoon in the 9900 block of Vincennes, police said.
The shooting occured at about 3:20 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The Chicago Tribune reports that a 13-year-old girl and a 44-year-old woman were inside of their car at a gas station when they were shot.
An off-duty officer responded to the shooting and exchanged gun fire with a man on the 9800 block of Throop Street, Mirabelli said. The officer ordered the man to stop and he turned and began firing. That is when the off-duty officer began firing, Mirabelli said.
Neither the officer or the suspect was hit, although the officer's vehicle was struck several times, Mirabelli said.
The two victims were taken to Advocate Christ medical center in critical condition.
The suspect who exchanged fire with the officer is in custody and police are still searching for additional suspects and witnesses, Mirabelli said. Officers are working to determine exactly what happened.

According to the official city neighborhood map this was about two blocks outside of Beverly. I think the neighbors who live close by would be interested.

I suspect the officer was trying to fire a DAO sidearm accurately, a near-impossible feat. Glad his opponent wasn't any more accurate. JK

This incident just goes to show that Chicago needs a gun law.

Gun laws will not help. The criminals dont obey them...the citizens would just accidently shoot innocent people, or themselves.

Sounds like a domestic situation, or an attempt car jacking, unless the 44 yoa lady was involved in a bad drug deal. That area near 99th from Beverly Blvd east to Halsted is crime ridden. Gang members and drug dealers are all over the place. Several people have been shot and the seedy gas station, and near 98th & Throop. A chicago police officer was disarmed near there a few years back after he crashed his squad car near 99th & Halsted. Glad I moved some years ago...

I remember when that was a nice, safe neighborhood, but then it had a different population, one that didn't thrive in a crime ridden ghetto. This is one more neighborhood in a long list of communities that have been ruined. Soon, the whole city will be a cesspool. That's the master plan, ruin one neighborhood and move into another location and foul that area too, ad nauseam. Wake up white people!

White people never learn...they move instead of fighting for better schools or police protections...the move as soon as one black family moves to 'their' block...like one family is going to move there and open up a crack house with a neon sign...so stupid....they aren't going to build a house on top of another...don't panic, keep living there, and the neighborhood won't fall apart...OR, be small-minded, flee instantly, and then 'wonder' HOW such a 'nice' area could 'change so much'...gee, I wonder.

Again, I say...why are we so doggone concerned about Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc., when we can't handle the wars being waged in our own backyards??!! What's the matter with America! We are being destroyed from within and we are too entertained in trying to mow the grass across the oceans.

The victims happen to be my family members and to set the record straight it was not a drug deal. Just innocent people at the wrong place at the wrong time. The shooters are animals and cowards to shoot someone up like that. It's not about race or the neighborhood; this is reality and there's more black men killing each other than any other race. Most of the time the violence towards one another is not worth the pain that is inflicted on the families of the Victims or suspects. Both sides are losing. It's time for these young men to wake up and for the parents to get more involved. The streets should not raise children, the parents should. The shooters are still out there and regardless to the street code, witnesses should come forward cause it can happen to another family.
