3 Adults Charged in Disturbance at Chuck E. Cheese's

Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen orders another meeting with Chuck E. Cheese's parent company to discuss security concerns before Tuesday's village board meeting.

Three adults were arrested on multiple charges of battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct stemming from a disturbance at Chuck E. Cheese’s on Saturday night.

Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen confirmed the arrests, stating that proactive safety measures taken by the village kept a bad situation from becoming worse.

In wake of Saturday's spate of arrests, Deetjen said he is calling for another meeting with the franchise's parent company--CEC Entertainment of Irving, TX-- to discuss ongoing safety concerns at the Oak Lawn Chuck E. Cheese's before the village board meets on Tuesday.

An off-duty, Oak Lawn police officer was parked in a police cruiser outside of the family entertainment center at 4031 W. 95th St., as part of a special security detail when the alleged disturbance began unfolding around 7 p.m.

Deetjen said that two, off-duty Chicago police officers employed by Chuck E. Cheese's as security guards asked for the Oak Lawn cop’s assistance in helping to eject two men that were reportedly being disruptive and disturbing other guests.

“The security officer indicated that the offenders were battering him inside the restaurant and were being combative,” the village manager said, citing a police investigation. “[The security officer] did sign complaints for battery.”

As the two Chicago men, identified as Corey Perkins, 31, and Kevin Perkins, 32, were being escorted outside they allegedly tried to escape from the security officers’ grasp.”

Deetjen, referring to the police report, said both men were wrestled to the ground before the security officers could handcuff them.

Police also arrested a 41-year-old, Chicago woman identified as Davine Morton, who officers said followed them outside and allegedly tried to interfer with the arrest. Deetjen said the woman reportedly kept approaching police and screaming profanities as they attempted to take the Perkinses into custody.

As security officers dealt with the situation at hand, other Oak Lawn police officers began to arrive at Chuck E. Cheese’s.

“We responded with our police force,” the village manager said. “We had ample police force on the scene. Our officer on detail was immediately on the scene.”

Corey and Kevin Perkins are being held on $5,000 bail in Cook County Jail on charges of resisting arrest, according to jail records. Their next court appearance is Feb. 26 in Bridgeview.

Last month the village entered an agreement with the property manager, KIMCO Realty, amid growing concerns about security and safety at Chuck E. Cheese’s. In December, an alleged gang member escaped injury and death when he was shot at sitting in his car in the parking lot while attending his child's birthday party at the restaurant.

KIMCO, the property manager, agreed to pay for an off-duty Oak Lawn police officer to patrol the premises during select evenings and hours. The special police duty was stationed in front of the restaurant on Saturday when the disturbance unfolded.

Deetjen said the village has similar arrangements with other Oak Lawn businesses.

“It’s something we initiated and we’ve been looking to do this in other areas of the village where we got a high level of incidents,” he said. “Rather than taxpayers paying the salary of a police officer and fuel costs, we took action and the landlord agreed.”

This will be the third time in the past year that the village has met with CEC executives to discuss security at the restaurant. Deetjen said the ball is now in Chuck E. Cheese’s court.

“This is a tenant issue,” he said. “”The violence and disturbances will not continue.”

Unless YOU are volunteering, James, you shouldn't be wishing anybody dead...it shouldn't take a death to close any establishement down if they are a detriment to the community.

The Village should close the place down and open a police station in its place.

Glad to see the Village is taking a proactive approach. See how many incidents really occur. Eventually it will be shutdown. Perhaps sending these hooligans & their families to Ford City to cause problems there.

Nothing can be done to save this place except to close it down, very sad.

So let me get this straight... an off duty officer/security guard gets battered by a patron and then goes and gets an Oak Lawn officer in the parking lot? If there was an Oak Lawn police officer there with a police radio this situation would not have had the opportunity to get out of control. Also lack of police presence. Put a guy in uniform in there and I'm sure people will be less likely to fight the police and comply with their requests/demands.

So let me get this straight, you'd like to put a uniformed police officer in a place that supposed to be family-friendly entertainment? If you need a uniformed cop to keep an establishment civil then you should just get rid of the establishment.

Do we need to wait for a homicide to occur before we finally shutter that place? Chuck E Cheese attracts a criminal element to the area that we don't want or need. It spills over too, just look at the police blotter for incidents at Portillo's, Jewel, etc. Its business license is up for review in April. I hope the village does not renew it.

Ford City Roits, Arena Bowl shooting, Chucky Cheese fights. The news story's just don't stop. How many years has this been going on??? The Patch has been our only news on these issues?? Why isn't there these same problems in the area east and North of Oak Lawn? Like Bevery or Evergreen Park or Mt. Greenwood? Why do the trouble makers like to come into Oak Lawn?????

Because other places value safety over the taxes SOME places bring in...keep in mind that you misspeak when you call it an "Arena Bowl shooting". That was under Brunswick...nothing has happened as long as it has been Arena, before or after the Brunswick Zone era.
Evergreen Plaza is essentially a ghost town, but you don't see the 'plaza' in the blotter anymore...other areas just don't 'play'...there was an off-duty cop when I worked at Western Trails over twenty years ago...and that was a small place, and we never had an incident once while I worked there, even if the cops were off on slow days...why did it take so long to get CEC to employ one when they have already HAD mulitple issues? Lack of leadership by whoever is in charge of dealing with CEC...no other reason.

The problem is the people who go to that business. I know many residents of Oak Lawn who refuse to go to that area of Oak Lawn due to the all the problems there! Shutting down he business is the only solution, get rid of the business and you get rid of ALL the problems!

Close it down already. What are you waiting for? There has already been a shooting. Please don't wait for a killing.

This place has always been trouble. My FIL car was stolen from the parking lot many, many years ago when it was still Showbiz pizza.

Time to close it down. Maybe there's a place to rent & reopen a CC at Ford City LOL!

I don't see this as a tennant issue as Mr. Deetjen suggests - but a customer issue. You really think closing them down will drive them to Ford City? More than likely to Chicago Ridge Mall - then what? I guess than it will be a Chicago Ridge problem and Oak Lawn doesn't have to deal with it.

Mr. Deetjen is 100% correct, it is most definitely a tenant problem. They're not attracted to the plot of land at 95th & Pulaski, its the Chuck E Cheese itself that draws them in. Yes its the business's customers that are creating the problem, but that particular business attracts problems to the area. Were say a Noodles & Co in that building instead of Chuck E Cheese, the problem wouldn't exist. Yes they will go elsewhere, that's exactly the desired effect of getting rid of Chuck E Cheese, it gets them out of Oak Lawn.

The TENANT should be doing far more to control this problem...management at Longhorn doesn't have any problems, and they are right ON Pulaski...KMart doesn't have riots...Arena Bowl isn't having problems...weird how good management prevents things and places like Brunswick and Hooters and FCM and CEC don't have enough security when and where they need it? Either they maintain a big enough presence at those locations to deter problems, or they go out of business because the need (and cost) is too great to afford...either way, the problems should go away easily enough if the formula is followed.

I have a question about this...what town owns the police cruiser that the off duty OLPD was sitting in? If it belongs to Oak Lawn, we want to know why!

Rick, it's an oak lawn car. I know where this is going, you're gonna complain about the gas. "I'm a taxpayer, I pay for that gas". Rick, look at the bigger picture. Three policemen were battered in your town by adults at a "kid friendly" restaurant. Doesn't that bother you? No, instead, you'd rather question the police and the village about who owns the police car. Get back to watching "The View" with the other libs.

Peter...since when is fiscal intelligence a 'lib' concern? Adam's statement is the part that makes sense...but there is no reason why BOTH wouldn't be a concern to ANY taxpayer in the town.
