4 Shot in Burbank Thursday Morning
Four people were shot outside a home in Burbank early Thursday morning, Chicago Breaking News reported. An Oak Lawn Patch reader who went to the scene also shares her report.
Chicago Breaking News reported that four people were shot in the early morning hours outside a Burbank home on Thursday morning.
The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Thursday at 85th Place and Narragansett Avenue and appears to be gang-related Burbank cops said.
All four victims were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Oak Lawn Patch reader Bethany Jessie-Roche said she received a 5-part “Crime Alert for Burbank, IL” text message that read:
“Apparently, there is a report of shots fired at 6401 W. 86th Street in Burbank, IL. Burbank police responded to 6401 W 86th St in regards to a 'shots fired' call. Upon arrival, officers encountered four persons who had been shot in an apparent gang motivated shooting. None of the injuries are life-threatening. No offenders have been identified however police believe this was an intended target and not random. The investigation is ongoing to identify/apprehend responsible parties. Any person with information on this event should contact the Burbank police detectives at 708-924-7300.”
Roche went to the crime scene, took some photos, and gave us this report:
“Upon arriving, I saw that there was crime tape, and several neighbors were outside. After I took a couple pictures, one of the teenage girls standing outside agreed to speak to me. She said that she was outside when it happened, and that there was blood all over the driveway.
According to the girl, the four victims allegedly are members of a street gang who live at the residence that was targeted. Allegedly, an occupant of an address across the street from the home is a member of rival gang, Roche reported.
The home is across the street from Tobin Elementary School in Burbank.

Who are "these people" that turn Burbank upside down? Is it just this one family that lives on your block or all of us? Because when you say "these people" you are grouping a whole bunch of people into one group.
I've lived here since 1981, graduated from Burbank School and Reavis, attended MVCC, then UIC, then NEIU. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in Education. So I know I'm not one of "these people" you are talking about. I actually make it possible for your kids and grandkids to choose a college.

Who made it possible for me to attend school? The residents in Burbank? I thought it was property taxes that my parents paid that provided me with the services that as a resident (and US citizen) of Burbank has rights to. I'm not ripping on anyone, I am trying to make a point that not all MEXICANS are gangbangers, not are all here illegally, not all are here maladjusted hoodlums.
Sadly, I didn't qualify for financial aid until I was 24 years old because my parents made "too much" money. I'm still paying off my graduate college loans. I now pay property taxes that make it possible for my son to attend district 111 schools.

FYI my family member was shot there last night she is not in a gang and didn't know that anyone that lived there was in a gang or never wouldve went there. She doesnt even live anywhere near there. It was the first time she went to that house EVER last night and was invited to go there from a mutual friend(aquaintance) They need to put all there asses in jail and throw away the key. Never would she had gone there if she knew about previous troubles that were happening from that house.

But she never would have gone there had she known of the previous troubles, right? Sounds like you might be in a little bit of denial about who your "family member" really is.

@Jerry... A young girl going with a friend to a party is NOT unimaginable! That happens every day. You go out with your girlfriends and look for a party. Are you too old to remember this? She does not have to be gang affiliated to be a victim. I'm sorry that happened to her. I hope the Ahole who did this gets caught by the police before there is more shooting and more innocent victims.

Gangs are everywhere...it's about time people realized it and this just brings it to light, these suburban politicians can no longer keep it a secret. The gang problem isn't just black or hispanic, in the suburbs there are more white kids in gangs than minorities, so there's nobody to blame except the parents who allow their children to be involved in gang or criminal activity. Police, parents, neighbors, and the communities can put a stop to this if they really tried. I'm Just Saying...

But where do you suggest people move, assuming they have the wherewithall to do so? Naperville? Known leaders live there. Orland Park? Same deal. Those with the money bought residences in quiet, well-kept areas to hide. The low-ranking members work the street corners, the distributors are in middle-class areas. If you move, you surrender.

Lorraine Swanson why don't you get your facts right before posting a story. One of the four victims was not a gang member and never was ever in a gang and doesn't live in that house or in that neighborhood. Maybe the other 3 were possible gang members but she isn't. It was the first time she was ever at that house and was brought there by a so called friend and has not ever have seen any of the people at that house before in her life. If you knowingly associate yourself with a gang or gang member, yes you ARE a gang member...and please don't insult our intelligence by pretending they didn't know of any gang affiliation because these clowns wear it on their sleeve like some badge of pride. Lets get back to the core of the problem...WHY are you kids out at 3a.m.? and why don't you know who they are with? The above poster is correct, Mr. Daley has been running the lowlifes out of the city for years and he has succeded in polluting our suburban communities which have police forces that are ill equiped to handle such street violence. I noticed it starting about 10 yrs ago...starts with something as simple as graffiti...next thing you know they're hanging in the park after hours. If you don't pay attention to your children's whereabouts they will be drawn in by this riff raff and by the time you realize it they have an attitude and its too late.

That is the most absurd statement I have ever heard. When children grow up and enter H.S. and college, they meet a diverse group of people. Are you seriously going to tell me that you or someone you knew, did not have a friend who did things you did not agree with? Everyone crossed paths with the "kid who did drugs", the one who ran with the wrong crowd, that does not make you equivalent to that person. That in no way makes you part of a gang, or part of anything else any other friend was associated with!. People need to come off of their high horses here, and realize that you don't always know your friend's friends are, and their life's choices aren't always the same as yours. On a sidenote, people who are claiming others are in denial, look in the mirror. I love how the underage drinking is factoring in this situation. Granted they were not the legal age of 21, but at 19, I'm sure your kid is at some college doing the exact same thing! Just because they are confined in the walls of higher education, does not make them any better. At the end of the day, just because you are an innocent person sitting next to someone who is not, that does not entitle someone to shoot you. If that is the case, I feel sorry for anyone standing in line at the grocery store, in a mall, going to a movie, or sitting in a desk at school. That ignorance would mean we are always in danger, and people have the right to harm us as they see fit. Sounds ridiculous, right? Yes, just like the above comments!!!

Gangbangers should all be put in a stadium and the last one standing is the King. After declaring him the King then he should be put to death. We are and have been for a long time a soft society, America has become a joke the way we deal with criminals. If you rape, molest or murder someone then you should be put to death. The criminals fear nothing because they are allowed to keep doing what they do, that's because there are idiots out there that think they have rights even after being found guilty of committing the most horrific crimes. Parents- pay more attention to your kids. Young people usually join gangs because they are looking for attention and structure. If they do not find within family they go out to look for it. As sad as it is, gangs gave them feeling of belonging. :(
Neighbors should watch their streets. If you see something going on and have suspicions, go and report it,even as a anonymous tip. Some of the sitiations may be prevented.

Are parents taught us that when we ware young. & if she knew there was beer come on we all know teenagers +beer = bad sutuation. I understan where you are coming from in regards to your family member being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I do pray she gets better but why are you wanting them to prosecute the HOMEOWNER, did your parents know where she was? Did they allow her to be out at that time? I have kids and I drive them back and forth versus letting them walk. I know where my kids are and try hard to stay on them. If god forbid that would have been my daughter at that home I know damn well I would be blaming myself for not doing enough investigating prior to letting my kid be out till all hours of the night. Drive around BURBANK at 12 or 1 am, you see alot of WHITE TEENAGE KIDS walking around but they are not approached by the POLICE. Whats up with curfew. The police were not called to the house because noise, again someone was stupid enough to call ignorant people who dont have the BALLS to go up to someone and let them know how they feel. They were cowards who shot into a fenced yard. I as well believe that kids turn to gangs when they are missing something at home. This may be the case in regards to the homeowner's son, however lets not sit an judge. If you have heard the information a neighbor called a rival gang, unfortunitly a little girl whom OBVIOUSLY her self lacks parental guidance decided it would be fun to call someone to shoot. I know I am about the 200th post on this story and will be repeating what all others have said but it is so true. The south suburbs have continued to go down the tubes. Gangs, Drugs, Section 8 Homes, Bank Robberies. I lived in Oak Lawn and once upon a time that neighborhood never had any concerns. Now you cannot walk around the block alone. I just recently moved because I could not stand what is happening. Instead of spending tax payers money on getting an American Idol to the fest or upgrading the flower pots how about hiring more police to patrol and take control of our neighborhoods. Then we can think about other things. Why can't these mayors see these things. Stop being indenial and appreciate the truth once in awhile.

@Amy&J I agree people need to stop playing the blame game and grow up. Also how many of us at that age didn't sneak alcohol at parties. The issue at that house was that there was no noise and they were actually just having a good time. Were they wrong for drinking of course they are minors, but that was not the reason for the shooting. Unfortunitly society does a good job teaching people to play the blame game. One of the people that keeps posting dumb comments happens to have one of those white trash daughters that is a slut. I do pray that everything gets better at that house. The MOTHER is a hard working woman who is working hard to keep her and her children financially stable, and this just really has affected her. I WONDER WHY THIS ARTICLE NEVER STATED THAT ONE OF THE PEOPLE THERE WAS A 23 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO WAS ARRESTED FOR CONTRIBUTING ALCOHOL TO A MINOR FOR CONSUMPTION. His mother as well was arrested but again we as parents can try hard not to allow our kids to drink but can not control what their friends bring. (in my day they were called BEER RUNS)

Correctly spelled it's "potatoes" --- I'm Mexican and I speak fluent Spanish. I speak Spanish at home to my mom and grandmother and dad (before he passed away). I also speak Spanish to my 14 year old son as well. I also speak Spanish to my mom when she goes to the Stickney Health Clinic (on Central) because she sometimes does not understand the questions the doctor asked her. She does speak English but people like YOU have made her feel doesn't speak it well enough that she needs me as her interpreter. But for you to say she has no right to receive the benefits of the clinic because she speaks Spanish is ridiculous! We've lived in Burbank since 1981 so if anything as a senior citizen she paid into those benefits. To say that people should just "LEARN ENGLISH" is incredibly ignorant. English is one of the hardest languages to learn to read, write, and speak. English is NOT phonetic like most other languages and has many words that sound the same but are spelled differently (these words are called homophones) and can be very confusing. (Interesting, for someone that wants others to "LEARN ENGLISH," your posts are filled with spelling/grammar errors --- perhaps you need to take some lessons yourself!!)
One thing I love about the USA is my right to speak any language I want to speak. Interestingly, I don't see you making comments about the Polish speaking families that also go to the Clinic to "use the benefits" equally as you.

You claim you drive your kids everywhere. Do you not feel they are safe to walk? Didn't have this problem years ago. You claim we "hate mexicans" then why do you choose to live here?? Perhaps you'd be more comfortable living in little village. I moved here to flee the trash that over took marquette park however the undesireables are trickling in. I agree with confiscating their home and evictions, hell half the neigborhoods already vacant

I've been here since 1981 granted I was a child when we moved here. My parents chose to live here because the loved the house they bought. It was different back in the 1980s. I could ride my bike everywhere and not be afraid. Child abductions were rarely heard of back then. I pay taxes just like everyone else. I am happy here and do not need to move anywhere.

What is wrong with some of you people on here? I am not a racist or bigot. There are good and bad in every race white, black, Mexican, Arab, etc. And how dare any of you say that any kind of race doesnt belong here. It's called America. So if Mexicans belong in Mexico and Chinese belong in china etc..then if your white where do you belong? You must have a nationality white just ain't white so then we can say if your German then you belong in germany and if your polish you belong in poland and the list goes on. Being white doesn't make you any better to live in America than anyone else. And No I am not Mexican either if that's what you think I am White but I am not a racist like some of you posting comments on here. And fyi when you are 20 years of age you don't have a curfew so you can go out of your house at anytime to go to work, a store, a persons house etc.no matter if it was 330 am or 330 pm. And to Rick you narrow minded piece of crap my niece that got shot is not a chick and is not a loser she works a full time job and a lot of overtime and is not a gang member so unless you know the facts I suggest you shut your pie hole your probably one of the ones sitting on unemployment checks for 99 weeks while me and my family members work hard to pay into the system that pays you out to sit on your butt at home. Oh and sorry our health care is not free unlike yours we have good size premiums taken from our paychecks to have good health coverage every paycheck. You're a Loser.

All this arguing is pointless. It's not a matter of who is more "right" or who is offended. The problem needs to be addressed by the authorities as well as by strong village ordinances and laws. We must participate in city council meetings and create such strong laws that gang bangers and other ne'er do wells feel the need to move elsewhere. Property seizure is one way to do this. If the city seized vehicles of unlicensed, revoked license and suspended license drivers (which they seem to pull over frequently) half these people wouldn't even drive through Burbank, let alone move here. We could auction the vehicles and hire more cops or fund schools.

We need conceal and carry passed in Illinois. An armed society is a polite society. I carry a Utah cc permit that allows me to carry in 30 states but not in Illinois. Citizens that have weapons need to know how to use them. Join a range and shoot. Get instruction. Be informed if you decide to use a weapon to stop an intruder. You will be in a world of s h t if you kill someone with your weapon. Vote for our second amendment rights.justice, liberty and freedom for all.
