Athlete of the Week: Richards' LeBeau Delivers Knockout Blow to McAuley

Bulldogs pitcher Brianna LeBeau throws a two-hit shutout against the Mighty Macs to lead the team to the Morton Sectional softball championship.

Mother McAuley and Richards battled each other in two games that were decided by a run this season. Both times, Richards came out on top.

Brianna LeBeau pitched a two-hit shutout in Saturday’s Morton Sectional championship game, propelling the Bulldogs to a 1-0 win over Mother McAuley. Richards advanced to the Hinsdale South Supersectional against Benet Academy, today at 4:30 p.m.

In recognition of her performance on Saturday, along with her dominating win last Wednesday against St. Ignatius in the Morton Sectional semifinals, LeBeau has been named Patch’s Athlete of the Week.

Earlier this year, the Bulldogs defeated McAuley 8-7 after trailing 7-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The comeback was capped by a walk-off sacrifice fly from Danielle Kappel. The Bulldogs found more magic Saturday with LeBeau’s two-hitter and a home run from Hannah Jenkins in the fourth inning.
