Blotter: Burglar Empties Rooms, Bizarre Trespasser

Oak Lawn police reports, Feb. 28 to March 4.

MONDAY, MARCH 4

Rooms Tossed

While a couple was out to dinner, burglars used a crowbar to pry their way into the couple’s home in the 5600 block of West 99th Place sometime before 7:30 p.m. Police said three bedrooms were ransacked. The homeowner said he was missing some watches, his social security card, costume jewelry and $1,000 in cash.

Police said that the homeowner’s wife’s wallet was stolen at another restaurant in Worth where they were dining five to seven days before. The couple did not file a police report for the stolen wallet.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 28

Man Walks Into Home Uninvited

A senior citizen was taking out his trash cans in the 10700 block of South Georgia Lane when a dark gray crossover vehicle pulled into his driveway around 9:18 p.m. Feb. 28. The driver of the vehicle, who was alone, entered the house through an open garage door. Police said the man entered the kitchen and yelled, “gas, gas, gas,” as he walked over to the stove.  The senior citizen followed the stranger into the home and yelled that he was calling police. The stranger ran out of the house and got back into his car and drove northbound to 107th Street before turning east. Police described the stranger as a male white in late 20s to early 30s, clean shaven, with short hair and a medium build.
