Burbank police upgraded their death investigation to a homicide investigation when Thursday's autopsy results from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that both had been shot and stabbed multiple times.

A family member found Peter Mountain, 78, and Sally Lopez, 80, dead in their bedroom around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, in the 6400 block of West 83rd Place, in Burbank.

WGN News reported that Mountain sustained several gunshot wounds and had cuts around his neck. Lopez also sustained blunt force trauma.

Burbank police believe the double murders to be an isolated incident with no threat to the community. There were no signs of forced entry, nor was burglary or robbery the motive, a police news release said.

Police extended their condolences to the Lopez family, adding that the couple left behind several children.

Over 40 investigators from the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are assisting in the investigation.

“We request that anyone with any information regarding this senseless murder [to] please contact the Burbank Police Department Investigation Unit at 708-924-7300."

THEN, ARE THEY SUSPECTING FAMILY, SOMEONE WHO KNEW THEM ETC....HOW ABOUT A LITTLE MORE DETAIL FOR THE RESIDENTS! A double homicide, no threat to the community??? Come on!

and they dont see a connection between the suspicious vehicle, three people fleeing and this?? considering it only happened a few blocks apart from each other dontcha think the people that were fleeing may have tried to hide from police there and killed the couple?

The police chase was much later and those people had been chased from Chicago.

Lock you doors and pay attention to your neighbors- crap happens everywhere. I am sure they have an estimated time of death based on science not fear. It was probably someone that knew them and we'll never hear about it. Chill people!

They better question those 3 who were where they don't belong. The one they caught in Oak Lawn should be a suspect with his 2 friends who were found running from their car in Burbank. Don'tch think?? Cops are not too bright in small towns. What the heck were they doing there? and what were they running from? C'mon

The three were running from Chicago cops who were chasing them from Chicago. I wouldn't call Burbank a small town. The southwest burbs have a task force the handle these situations. I personally don't think the two are linked. The science will prove that they were dead along before the suspicious car came into the area.

Blame the media for all the hype.

Since they caught the runaways from Chicago, obviously if they suspect any of them to be involved they will get DNA and find out...this isn't beyond the 'not too bright' cops of the 'small town' of Burbank (with a population that would make it a metropolis outside of Cook County in half of Illinois...). As mentioned, the major crimes task force will be in on this. Regardless of what WE might THINK we know about the timeline of various events, science and police work will determine the truth...

why is it okay for PHREE to make a comment like that?... "I guarantee a male Caucasian is to blame". had anyone else made the same comment and inserted the word "male black" or "male hispanic" it would have been flagged as derogatory. Why do all media outlets have this dbl standard that it is ok to offend white people but heaven forbid if any other race is offended.

Just calling it as I see it, didn't mean to offend any male caucasians. I have read several race fueled post on the CEC articles and the POLICE BLOTTER articles, hell, I've even written some. I'm an equal opprotunity offender, relax guys. And don't assume I'm a "male black" or "male hispanic".

RIP to Peter Mountain and Sally Lopez, I pray your families find peace during this tragic time.

People don't start with race! This was a murder plain and simple. Whoever did this is a murderer. Need to be found and prosecuted.
