Car Fire Burns Rental House Garage

People were in the home, located at 6200 W. 90th St., when the fire started but no one was injured.

Firefighters battled a car fire inside the garage of a rental home on West 90th Street Saturday night.

The blaze was contained to the garage before it could reach the house, said Oak Lawn Battalion Chief Pete Lombardi. At least two people were in the home when the car caught fire and no one was injured.

Investigators did not immediately have a cause for what started the fire, which started at about 3:40 p.m. in the garage at 6200 W. 90th St.

Witnesses said the garage door was closed when firefighters arrived and it had to be pried open. Flames could be seen shooting out of the garage.

The car's fuel tank had ruptured at some point, one witness said. When firefighters opened the garage door, flaming gasoline poured out and spilled down the driveway.
