Cops Apprehend Machete Man at Motel

Woman tells police that her boyfriend put the weapon to her throat while she was in bed.

Police went to three local hotels before finding a woman who had placed a 911 call saying that her boyfriend had tried to slash her throat with a machete on April 28.

According to the cops, they went to two motels on Cicero Avenue. At both motels, the officers were told they did not have guests registered under those names. Police finally ended up at the Gateway Motel, 4657 W. 95th St., around 2:10 p.m., where they found the victim.

The victim, a 36-year-old woman, had been staying at the motel with her 51-year-old boyfriend for two days, according to the report. Police said the couple got into an argument about the woman’s old boyfriend.

The woman said her boyfriend left the room and put the machete in the trunk of the car. The boyfriend came back to the room and fell asleep, reports said.

The boyfriend told police that the couple had been drinking vodka and beer since noon, when his girlfriend began yelling at him.

Police said the boyfriend denied placing a machete to the victim’s throat and said he went to sleep.

Carlos V. Torres, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault. He appeared in court on April 29.
