'Date' With Undercover Cop Leads To Prostitution Bust

Police said woman explained to detective posing as "john" what he'd get for $40.

Oak Lawn police arrested a woman after she solicited an undercover cop in a prostitution sting, reports said.

Leslie C. Shinn, 46, of the 9001 block of South Cicero Avenue, was charged with one felony count of prostitution on April 11.

Acting on a tip, police said they learned that a woman residing at the mobile home park was involved in prostitution and solicited customers by walking up and down Cicero Avenue.

A detective posing as a john called and asked Shinn if she was interested in going on a “date.” She told the detective to meet her at 87th Street and Harlem Avenue “because she was at the trailer park nearby,” the report said.

Provided with $40 in bait money, the detective called Shinn and saw her crossing Harlem Avenue around 7:08 p.m.

After entering the detective’s car, he gave the takedown signal for other police officers to stop the car. Police said Shinn was found with a condom, a cell phone with the detective’s phone number in it, and the $40 in bait money.

The detective said after Shinn got into his car, she asked him for $45. Saying he was short $5, he asked Shinn “what would happen for $40?” According to the report, Shinn explained what would happen.

Police said that Shinn agreed to have sex with the detective but she was “going to rip him off” by not performing sexual acts.

Shinn has one previous conviction for prostitution from March 8, 2010. She was charged with one felony count of prostitution.

She was awaiting a bond hearing on April 12 at the time of the report.
