Eastbound Lane of 95th Street Still Closed At Cicero After Truck Rollover

Clean-up of a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue is progressing after a semi-truck carrying a load of steel coil flipped on its side Monday morning.
As of 4 p.m., the truck cab had been righted, but crews were still figuring out how to remove the semi-trailer, that had folded in the center. The dent made the trailer difficult to move from the scene.
The eastbound lanes of 95th Street were closed crossing the intersection as caution tape and sawhorses isolated the accident scene.
Oak Lawn police officers are at the intersection directing traffic, but the eastbound lane of 95th Street on the southeast corner of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue adjacent to the White Castle restaurant remained closed.

Heavy equipment crews had put the semi-trailer back on its feet, but the trailer still appeared to be held upright by crains. The trailer was open exposing a load of steel cable.
Oak Lawn Police Chief Bill Villanova said the accident occurred when the driver of the semi-truck was making a right turn on to 95th Street from Cicero Avenue, hitting a light pole and flipping over on its side.
Earlier, the village sent out an emergency alert through the Everbridge system advising drivers to stay away from the corner for the next several hours.

We saw a similar incident with a truck last Wednesday on Cicero, I think btwn 85th& 87th or so...the trailer was cracked in half in much the same way as this one...wonder if there's a connection!?

I'm not an expert MP, but perhaps the drivers in both incidents did not make the turn wide enough. That was some of the speculation at the scene today.

Trucking is nothing like it used to be.. Once deregulation went through any idiot can get authority to haul freight. Take a look at the names on these trucks,, Chances are good you never heard of them versus the old days where they were reputable and large legitimate safe companies..Did anyone happen to be there when the driver was questioned?? By chance, did they need to call an interpreter to fill out the accident report?? Be careful driving out there and always watch out for the other guy.....

I drove by there yesterday and the trailer was in fact cracked in two. I was chatting with a checker at Walgreens and she said when the accident happened it sounded like thunder. I'm glad no one got hurt.

About 3 years ago the residents along 93rd Street between Oak Park Ave and Nashville initiated a petition for a speed bump. This went before the traffic committee and was APPROVED. They were to put this one up the following spring. After many calls finally last year we were told that they didn't have any more speed bumps, no money to buy more---- but that after baseball season they would move the one that is on 93rd west of Oak Park. We are still waiting. Has a magic money bag fallen out of the sky for traffic improvements??? Can you get the village to implement what was already APPROVED????
