Get a Glimpse of the Faces of the Illinois Republican Convention

For the first time in history, the Illinois Republican convention has made its way to Tinley Park.

The state's Republicans came in droves to Tinley Park on Friday sporting suits, red white and blue, and American flag T-shirts.

All were eager to take part in the weekend's Illinois Republican Convention, where there have been opinions about the importance of keeping marriage between one man and one woman and decisions made on party platform issues like direct elections and gambling.

Comments got a bit heated during delegates' talks of the nomination for the party's Republican National Committeeman. While newcomer candidate William Kelly didn't get a second look or even a nod of approval from delegates, others, like Alexander "Sandy" Stuart were specifically questioned on their donations over the years to donate to groups like Planned Parenthood.

Though slightly unorganized, the first day of the convention went off without a hitch.

Peruse our accompanying photo gallery for a glimpse of the action and keep your eye out for more throughout the weekend.

Every intelligent, thinking, fair minded man and woman I know is insulted by the GOP's intrusion into the private lives and health matters of grown women. I literally weep when I see what the Republicans are doing to our nation. And the rest of the world laughs.

It doesn't even make sense. Why would any political party/campaign spending millions of dollars to attract voters declare a War on 50% of the electorate? Anyone with a brain in their head would realize that it's just another tactic by the left in an attempt to generate fear and hate. It's exactly like calling the GOP 'racists' - which is clearly ridiculous, as many women and african-americans are members of the GOP. for goodness sakes, Martin Luther King was a Republican! And, sadly, many people like JJR don't have the ability to think rationally. They simply repeat the talking points given to them... sad.

If you can defend Obama's record - fine. we're happy to have that debate. But, a War on Women makes about as much sense as calling saying the Republicans hate freedom. It's simply campaign nonsense - like throwing Grandma off a cliff.. Who actually believes that ANYONE wants to hurt the elderly?. and I can't even believe that clear thinking adults subscribe to such silly rhetoric. It's a 7th grade mentality.

If that places us in an "Anti-Women" class in your mind - so be it. hmm... I'm Anti-Woman, but I'm a woman.. interesting how that works.. I'll be happy to: Women will be forced to carry a dead fetus inside them until their body delivers it naturally. Just as and I quote Mr. England "The pigs and cows do". So one example: If a woman is pregnant with twins, one of the babies dies, the law will require the living fetus to be removed from her uterus (no matter the stage of pregnancy) because that child's life will be in danger and the law requires the woman to carry the dead child. No matter what it will do to her health.

Personhood Bill (which some idiots are declaring women are always legally pregnant unless we are menstruating) is just something my brain is incapable of grasping but this is the best and I mean the best response to it. Kudos to this Senator. (If you are unable to understand this one, I'll be happy to explain it to you.

The war on women is coming from the Democrats. We should be concerned about the economic health of our nation and our children's future and security.

Distract from your horrible record by demonizing and dividing, and keep up constant chaos. Constant chaos covers up and distracts keeping the real issues from ever being discussed.

If the unborn child is diseased, the pregnancy can be terminated. The fact that you argue so passionately for the unlimited right for women to kill their unborn children makes me want to puke. Who, if not us, will protect these children? And yet - you will support a ban on Happy Meal toys, because children don't know what is good for them. You make no sense. It's OK to murder them - but don't feed them french fries for crying out loud. Keep talking, Sara. You're doing great so far. @ FWMom and Marie, I get why republicans have passed or tried to pass scores of antiabortion laws in the states and congress, they want to secure their base. I don't understand why the republicans are against providing contraception to any one..It seems to me, if people are serious about unwanted pregnancies that lead to abortion, they would fill the pockets of people with condoms and birth control pills that wanted them.
What about republicans like Walker that went against equal pay for equal work for women? I want my daughter to be paid the same as the guy next to her doing the same job. Why not?
To a lot of women if some shlup was getting paid more just cause he had male genitals, it would mean war.

Russ - 1. We want to protect the unborn to 'secure our base.' So ridiculous, it doesn't even dignify a response. 2. We are not 'against providing contraception to any one." We are against FORCING companies to provide insurance for birth control, if that idea is against their religious conscience. If an institution would like to provide insurance for birth control - that's GREAT! But, don't force organizations, like the Catholic Church to do it. Do you see the difference? It's a matter of CHOICE, not contraception. We are not anti-birth control. 3. What ever happened to personal responsibility? Why is it Joe Taxdollar's responsibility to provide birth control for complete strangers? Birth control is not a Health Issue. It's a "let's have sex, but not have a baby" issue. It's not like Cancer. Birth Contol involves CHOICE. And along with those choices, comes responsibility. And why do you put all that responsibility on the women? Don't men have a responsibility to use condoms?? Better yet, as they also prevent the spread of disease. But the Democrats seem to think only the woman are responsible.. and the taxpayers should pony up so our young women don't have to behave like responsible adults. 98% of the Republican voters are Pro-birth control. But, it's not my responsibility to buy your daughter's pills. It's HER responsibility. Are you capable of understanding that?

Let's talk about Equal pay legislation. it sounds like a GREAT idea. So, why would GOP lawmakers vote against it. I'll tell you why. When the Congress passed the Americans for Disabilities Act, it was to protect disabled people by securing their rights for employment. Here is the reality: 51% of disabled people were employed when the law was passed. Now only 32% are employed. Do you know why? Trial lawyers. Employers are scared to death to employ anyone with a disability because of the Trial Lawyers. They can never fire that employee or they could lose their business. Did they actually help people with disabilities? NO. And the same thing will happen to women. The kindest thing we can do for women who need to work part-time and have greater flexibility (due to motherhoood) is to NOT pass a law that would endanger their ability to get a job. Russ - you should read more AND do some 'critical thinking.'

I recently had an interesting debate concerning "choice" while circulating petitions. The couple's teenage son was sitting outside with the door locked behind him, and he told me he was an "anarchist". the "Mom" said she believed in unlimited power of a "mother" to terminate her unborn at any time. I asked her if it was OK for a "Mom" to kill her newborn as it was being born. She said "yes" I asked her if she thought it was ok for a "Mom" to kill her newborn if it left her body, but still umbilically attached. She said "yes". I asked her if it was ok for a "Mom" to kill her newborn after its umbilical cord was severed. She said "yes". I was astounded that any woman, especially a mother, could think that way.

Reply

Bob

7:43 pm on Sunday, June 10, 2012

I then asked why she thought the mother had this murderous right. She said the childe was "her body". I told her that I assumed that she had at least somoe rudimentary biological knowledge, then asked her what was uniquely found in every cell in her body that made it "hers". I saw her struggling, so I told her that which is part of her body has her complete DNA in it, everything from her skin to her saliva to her blood. Then I asked her if it was possible for her unborn child to have her EXACT DNA as does every part of her body. She said no, but she knew wehere this was heading. The fact is that an unborn child has its own unique DNA, and is not "part of the mothers body". It's a unique and separate human being that has a symbiotic relationship with the mother, much like a nursing mother has with a newborn. I asked again, why should she have the right to kill someone that is not part of her body?

Reply

Bob

7:48 pm on Sunday, June 10, 2012

Then I aasked her that if she's getting a transfusion of blood from somebody as a mother gives fluids to an unborn, does the person giving her blood then have the right to kill her because now she's part of "his body" by taking his blood? I asked if someone is giving her air in resussitation does he have the right to kill her because by breathing HIS air into her she has a symbiotic relationshsip with him as does a mother to child? At this point, of course, her logic left her and she left, but her husband and son remained.

I told them that I thought that "owning" another person was morally wrong, whether it's a slave and master on a plantation or a mother with an unborn child. The mother does not "own" the child; they're connected and need to rely in each other for life.

That's really what the pro-life movement is about; fighting against those who believe they can "own" other innocent human beings and abuse, or kill, them at their whim.

This nation paid a penance of blood for the evil of slavery 150 years ago. One wonders what price we will need to pay for allowing our current murderous "slavery" under the deception fo calling it "reproductive freedom">

FwMom,
I never said all the responsibility for preventing pregnancy is on the women.Your reply to contraception is interesting, the way you say your not against it and then you say why should it be joe taxdollars responsibility. Ultimately who pays for a child born to an unemployed single mom? So your ok, with condoms, but not birth control pills? I just think contraception is one of the best preventions of abortions. I am not opposed to having my tax dollars pay for it. I am not judging people when it comes to their sexual practices.
Your response to equal pay for women is laughable. "The kindest thing we can do for women who need to work part-time and have greater flexibility (due to motherhoood) is to NOT pass a law that would endanger their ability to get a job".
Really, you are afraid to raise a question about equal pay to your employer? So are a lot of other women that is why the ledbetter act was passed in 2009.

1. I never said I was OK with condoms, but not birth control pills. I'm ok with any kind of birth control prior to conception. (I have to clarify because some women use 'abortion' as a birth control method.) I simply wonder why the Democrats never ask men to take responsibility for birth control The Democrats lay all the responsibility on women. How is that fair? Seems to me - it takes two. 2. My response to Equal pay is only laughable to people who think Big Government is the answer. The first responsibility of the government is to keep us free. Free to succeed and free to fail. Employers should be free to pay what they can afford and what each employee is worth. They will pay good people a higher wage and poor performers less - as it should be. Of course, the employees always have the freedom to work somewhere else. By legislating away their freedom to choose, you are creating 'unintended consequences' will only hurt both the employee and the employer. Why do you hate freedom? Why do you love Trial Lawyers?

Also Russ - If you want to pay for everyone else's birth control - go ahead. Donate to Planned Parenthood, or whoever you wish. You should have the freedom to do whatever you want with your money. It's not how I CHOOSE to spend MY money.. there's that pesky word again. CHOOSE. FREEDOM TO CHOOSE, which you are so willing to take away from me. Just wait, dude. You're next. When they can take away my right to choose - they are taking yours also. Just keep believing that this is about contraception.. You are falling for their deception and they are laughing all the way back to their Washigton condos.. Watch the other hand, Russ. Watch the other hand.

FWMom,
Sometimes big government is the answer.I realize some people have better work ethics, are more talented and better performers than others. If an employer chooses to reward that employee with bonuses, pay raises or promotions great. The problem is when that great employee happens to be a women or someone of color that the employer chooses to discriminate against. For whatever reason, maybe, the employer wanted sexual favors and didn't get them, maybe he just doesn't like people of color.
If two workers are performing equally and the one happens to be a women she shouldn't get less pay because of her sex. Nor should a person get less pay because of his or her color.

1. Big Government is NEVER the answer. The Constitution is a charter of negative liberties FOR A REASON. The Founding Fathers brilliantly ennumerated the powers of the federal government, to keep them at a distance. The States were to have the most power, to encourage competition among them to provide the best environments for families and business. This government has gotten TOO big and bossy. AND they spend our money like monopoly money. I'm sick of it. I don't want them telling me what kind of light bulb or washing machine to buy. I don't want them telling my boss how much to pay me! I want him to pay me exactly what I'm worth, let my talents drive up the price, allowing ME to earn what the market will bear. If an employer CHOOSES not to pay employees equally - they will leave. and they have the FREEDOM to do so. I am pro-life. I would recommend against abortion every time. However, the Supreme Court has ruled that abortion is legal - so, with great sadness, I accept their ruling. If a woman chooses to kill her unborn child - she can do so. But, at some point the 'fetus' becomes a viable human baby inside the womb. The brain and nervous system are formed. Late Term abortions are horrific and cruel and no longer become an issue of 'the woman's body'. This is clearly a Right to Life argument. Terminating a pregnancy after the baby is capable of surviving outside the womb is murder.
