The Wellness Club will discuss natural remedies to boost life longevity at its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (April 26). The club is meeting at Panera Bread on 158th & Harlem in Orland Park. Natural solutions and remedies will be offered for such health-related issues at improved brain function, sleep issues, prostate and urinary tract health and cancer prevention. Members and guests can also use Livingto100 life expectancy calculator to create their own life expectancy estimate and receive helpful feedback on ways to increase it.

Earth Day Celebration 2012

Make friends with the planet at Oak Lawn’s Earth Day celebration hosted by the Oak Lawn Green Team and Park District from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Wolfe Wildlife Refuge. This free, family-friendly event is filled with giveaways and tons of activities for the whole family. Hang out with Jim Nesci’s Cold Blooded Creatures or make crafts. Other featured activities include plant giveaways, free raffles, tree planting demo, worm composting, rain barrel demo, home energy conservation, a how-to on raising monarch butterflies, nature walk and more. Other Important Deadlines You Don’t Want To Miss:

  • Oak Lawn Community Partnership is throwing a Red Ribbon Block Party for school kids on the Village Green from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 27. Children are invited to show their school spirit by wearing their school colors. Games cost 25-cents and refreshments are available for purchase—but the entertainment is FREE. Respect Yourself, Respect Your Health and Be Drug Free. The Village Green is located north of the Oak Lawn Library at Cook and Dumke.   • Volunteers are needed to help clean the Oak Lawn Park District’s dog park from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28. There will be free coffee and donuts. Bailey’s Crossing is located at 9910 S. Melvina Ave. For more information, give Adam Fisher a ring at 708-857-2200.
  • If you were part of the search party for Glenn Miller then you don’t want to miss the Southwest Symphony’s Salute to the Big Bands featuring vocalist Michelle Voigt, and dancer Tommy Giacchino at Trinity Christian College. The sentimental journey begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29. Tickets are just $5.
