Local Jobs Available This Labor Day
Hope for unemployed and underemployed this Labor Day with jobs available in the local area.
We have good news and bad news for the unemployed and underemployed this Labor Day: the good news is that local unemployment rates are no longer in the double digits.
The bad news is that Illinois’s unemployment rate is still exceptionally high as of July 2012—8.9 percent—six points above the national average of 8.3 percent, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
This doesn’t factor in all those folks who have given up looking for work because they think no jobs are available to them.
So on my daily walk I strolled past U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski’s (IL-3) service office on 95th Street in Oak Lawn. You can learn a lot reading Congressman Lipinski’s window. For example, did you know that the nation’s wealthy are stashing their money into “pirate banks?”
But the good congressman also had a couple of job ads posted there, which I ran over in my pajamas to copy at 1:45 a.m.
So in honor of those want a full-time job but have given up looking for work, for the unemployed and underemployed this Labor Day, here are some local places that are hiring. Good luck.
Military veterans are especially encouraged to apply to become train conductors. The ad on Congressman Lipinski’s window didn’t mention which railroad line. The job pays $17.95 per hour. Send resumes to JGrant@eesforjobs.com or call 708-223-8629.
