It was another great July 4th holiday in Oak Lawn, thanks to many who were out there working in that 100-plus-degree heat so that the rest of us could enjoy the day.
I would like to thank our village staff initially for all the efforts with the parade. From the months of planning through the afternoon clean up, it was a terrific success. Thank you to our business development/special events staff and committee members, our public works team, the Police and Fire Departments (great job with the duck races benefiting the Children’s Museum), and all the children who were nice enough to pick up that candy on the street so we didn’t have to clean it up. We had reports of roving dentists dropping cards up and down 95th street.
My thanks to the wonderful Oak Lawn Park District for the events all day for children and families, capped off by the music and fireworks display that evening. That was a long day for those employees, and many were back out cleaning up at 6 a.m. on July 5th. It is just another reason to be proud of the finest park district in the state.
Our police and fire departments were also there at Richards that evening, for our safety and in case anyone needed help. Great presence throughout.
For all of us who were not working that day, please know how much we appreciate each and every one of you who worked to make it a great July 4th for families in Oak Lawn.
