Oak Lawn Under Heat Advisory for Tuesday

Here we go again--100-plus degree temperatures predicted for Tuesday. Oak Lawn will open cooling centers.

Get ready because it’s going to be another scorcher. Oak Lawn and the Chicago region are under a heat advisory with temperatures expected to soar above 100 degrees on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. Expect high temperatures around 100 degrees across Cook County on Tuesday afternoon. The heat index is expected to range between 100 and 100 degrees in the afternoon and early evening.

According to weather god, Tom Skilling, chief meteorologist for WGN, the summer of 2012 may be on track to set a new record of 90-degree plus days. The current record of 90-plus degree days stands at 47 set in 1988.

So far, 2012 has logged 30 days 90-degrees or more.

Know the signs of heat disorder symptoms & how to treat them.

The summer’s drought across much of the United States is also ranked the most expansive since 1956, Skilling says.

Oak Lawn-Area Cooling Centers

You know the drill--Oak Lawn-area cooling centers will remain open on Tuesday for residents without access to air-conditioning.

If you know someone who needs to get out of the heat or if you have elderly family members and neighbors who aren't on the Internet, tell them they can drop in any time today at these local cooling centers. Better yet, invite them over to your house for dinner.

Should we go for the record of 48 days of 90-plus degree days in a single summer or do we stop now? Tell us in the comments.
