Shirley Ronan, 81, of Oak Lawn, was turning onto eastbound 135th Street from Forest Ridge Drive around 2:30 p.m. when a car traveling westbound struck her on the driver's side door, Deputy Chief Dave Delaney said.
Ronan was making a left turn, which is not allowed at that intersection, Delaney said.
She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead about eight hours later, Delaney said.
The 63-year-old Orland Park man who struck Delaney's vehicle was not cited in the crash. An independent witness who observed the accident told police he was not speeding when the collision occurred, Delaney said.
