In voting for Southland Patch's MVP for Jan. 14-20, who gets the biggest roar from the crowd?
Mother McAuley girls basketball standout Lauren Carlson scored 19 points in the Mighty Macs' 60-57 victory over Loyola.
Bloom Township's Bria Gaines had another monster game in the Blazing Trojans' 78-54 girls basketball victory over Rich East. Gaines finished with 36 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks.
Nick Ghilardi led Andrew to the team title at the Sandburg Sectional bowling tournament. The Thunderbolts finished with a pinfall total of 6,397. Ghilardi placed second with a six-game total of 1,348.
Lincoln-Way East's Andy Gramont won two individual events and helped the Griffins to Joliet Central co-op 120-50 in a dual swimming meet. Gramont placed first in the 100 free (51.33) and first in the 100 back (1:02.95).
Sandburg's Steve Jacobsen bowled games of 300 and 246 for a two-game school-record series of 546 in the Eagles' dual meet victory over Tinley Park. He surpassed the series record previously held by last year's state champ, Joey Kopera, and he became the third Sandburg bowler to roll a perfect game in match play. Jacobsen also helped the Eagles notch a third-place finish in the Sandburg Sectional.

Kevin White is a very unselfish player and is exciting to watch. He is a unique player being small and playing one of the toughest positions (point guard).

We are so proud of Ken VandeWerken, and the whole team. I didn't realize the time, effort, money and dedication is takes for the sport of bowling. Ken just ranked 3rd individually on Saturday sectionals and OLCHS team came in first place. I wish them luck this weekend downstate! Thanks Coach McKeown

Tuna- as you see my definition of an ATHELETE (spelled correctly) bowling is a serious sport. Come ball a game and see who has more skill.
