Thefts reported in Oak Lawn from June 11.
MONDAY JUNE 11
‘Flag Waved Bye-Bye’
Someone swiped an American flag from the porch of a home on the 9600 block of South 51st Avenue. The flag was discovered missing at 4:19 p.m.
Respiratory Stands, Hospital Bed Pilfered
An Integra electric hospital bed and 18 metal respiratory canister stands were reported stolen from behind Oak Lawn Respiratory and Rehabilitation Center at 9525 S. Mayfield Ave. Police said that a maintenance worker discovered the stands missing around 9 a.m. The stands were each valued at $800 and had been chained to a railing. The maintenance worker believes the missing stands may be related to a similar theft of an Integra electric hospital bed on May 28. Police said that the maintenance worker had placed the bed outside behind the center. Another witness who was delivering oxygen tanks on that day, told police he saw a man approximately 60 years old, disassembling the bed and putting the parts in a green Ford pickup truck. In fact, the witness said, he helped the man load the mattress into his truck. Police said the witness remembered the incident because it had been raining. After the witness finished helping the man, he gave the witness his business card and said to call him he needed scrap moved. The maintenance worker called the name of the scrap dealer on the business card. When the maintenance worker requested the return of the hospital bed, police said the person who answered the phone hung up. Complaints will be signed.
