Thanks for letting me know that Route 7 is SW Highway. I see that it's changed in the article now. And thanks for not making me feel stupid for asking.

@Cate—I'm sorry about that. I should have used the local name.

Please SEE cars. There are just as many idiots on bikes as there are in cars.

My son tells me his bus driver (Stagg) got word on his radio that the accident was fatal. Not confirmed, but if there is talk of a fatality, it must at least be pretty serious.

None of the departments involved have confirmed whether anyone was killed as of yet.

Very sad. Please watch out for motorcycles & also cyclists. There's so many triathletes & cyclists who train on the open roads & I'm always worried about cars. Most people are diligent about bike safety but there's few that are reckless. This is such a car oriented society & we need to respect & watch out for anyone on two wheels since they're at a disadvantage with being exposed.

I too came upon this accident right when it happened. I pray for the rider and driver. To experience this is horiffic. There was also a person kneelling down at the drivers head and I can't imagine being so helpless at that point. Prayer going out to all...

Work down the block, sad incident. Terrible to say but the motorcyclist was in the wrong. He was going too fast weaving through traffic. Truck could never have saw him coming around the bend/hill there. Pretty sure it was fatal. Sad, but ride responsibly.

Wouldn't have been closed for investigation that long unless there was a fatality. Sad for all. And to civilians who witnessed it. Prayers go out to you too.

When I drove by there last night to take my daughter to cheer, I was told by Palos Hills police that it was fatal.

BTW, I was there around 6:30 - 6:45 lst night, I had to park at the Avian and walk to the field, the site was awful to look at! The bike was completely under the truck still and helmet was on the street. Bodies were gone but vehicles were there.

I was stuck in traffic during this horrific time last night taking my daughter to a Unified Volleyball game at Stagg High School. Even that was delayed as the other team had to sit in the same traffic as we did. My prayers go out to all involved, I was informed this morning that there was a white sheet over a body on the ground at 6:30pm. I would assume that there was a fatality. Seeing Mr. Sneed's post above, I bet speed and stupidity (unfortunately) will be factors. Sure we all need to SEE the bikers, but like someone else posted they need to SEE the vehicles as well. It boils down to "you can't fix stupid!"

We were just four rows back and were there as emergency equipment arrived, as we got to turn around in the other lane, we saw the first responders looking under the van. We assumed either a pedestrian, or motorcyclist was involved. Thank you for posting, as we left the scene praying for all involved, those present, and their loved ones.

Maybe getting facts b4 commenting would be a good thing here. It was NOT a fatal accident and it is still under investigation. Check Southtown Star . So Jackie you are correct when you say "you can't fix stupid" and if the shoe fits......HMMMM. I can't believe some of the comments and that some people can be so judgmental and cruel with their remarks when some one is suffering as well as their loved ones. SHAME ON YOU!. I wish this rider a speedy recovery and prayers for him and his family..

Thank you for commenting. I'd like to keep this conversation in a constructive direction and say it's a really good idea to drive safely and use extra caution whenever motorcycles are around.

A 28-year-old Champaign man was seriously injured Tuesday when his motorcycle slid beneath a truck on Southwest Highway in Palos Hills, police said.

The man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, deputy police chief James Boie said. Information on his condition Wednesday afternoon was not available, and police did not release the man’s name.

The motorcyclist was heading south about 3 p.m. in the 11300 block of Southwest Highway when a truck pulled out of a driveway and began turning north, Boie said. To avoid colliding directly with the truck, the man laid down his motorcycle and slid beneath the truck, Boie said.

The truck driver was not injured.

No charges have been filed, pending an investigation by Palos Hills police, Boie said.

Southwest Highway was closed to traffic between 111th Street and Illinois 83 until about 8 p.m. Tuesday, Boie said. (SO MAYBE THE RIDER WASN'T SPEEDING or STUPID) Just sayin. let the investigation be completed b4 making accusations.

If he lived, that is great, but the Palos Hills officer told me directly that it was fatal. I'd be so happy if it wasn't.

Was the truck driver ticketed forailure to yield right of way? Was he ticketed at all?

I know it's a stereotype, but people I've known from South Korea have been riding motorcycles all their lives in all kinds of weather (cars are too expensive for young people there) and "road rage" or reckless driving is very rare, UNLESS they see a foreigner driving, then an accident "happens" and the foreigner can't leave the country until the native, and police, are "satisfied".
