Spring Into Summer: Get Out!

Where/when: Oak Lawn Village Hall at 9466 S. Raymond Ave., from 6 to 10 p.m. June 17.
Why go: The Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce will host a preview party for its 2011 Auto Show showcasing the latest models from Oak Lawn car dealerships. The band, Railroad Gin will perform and food, beer, wine and soft drinks will be for sale.
Pricing: FREE except for food and beverage purchases.
Where/when: Oak Lawn Park District Oak View Center, 4625 W 110th St., 3:30-4:30 p.m. June 17.
Why go: Kids, teens and families are invited to draw on the sidewalk outside of the Oak View Center. Maybe you can jump into the some of the pictures and sing “Supercalifragilistic”
Pricing: Can’t beat free.
Where/when: Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce, Cook and Dumke Drive, across from village hall at 9466 S. Raymond Ave., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 18.
Why go: The fifth annual “Spring into Summer” event features a vendor fair, car show and pet parade.
Pricing: Can’t beat free.
Where/when: Assemble at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School at 54th Avenue and 99th Street. Registration begins at 9 a.m. sharp; parade starts at 10 a.m. June 18.
Why go: Because it’s going to be fun. March with your favorite pet or enter your critter in the “Best Dressed Pet” or “Pet/Owner Look Alike” contests for some fabulous prizes. Parade ends at Cook and Dumke Drive. Prizes awarded in the gazebo.
Where/when: St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 10301 S. Kolmar Ave., 4 to 11 p.m. June 18-19.
Why go: Enjoy authentic homemade Greek cuisine. St. Nick’s will be cooking up our famous Greek shicken, shishkebob, spanakopites, tiropitakia, gyros, saganaki and our infamous Greek desserts...and, YES...those lucious loukoumades! Live Greek music, Greek Dance performances and more to entertain you. Open to all.
Where/when: Toyota Park, 7000 S. Harlem Ave., Bridgeview, 5-10 p.m. June 17; 1-11 p.m. June 18 and 19.
Why go: Features a carnival, live music and lots of traditional Polish cuisine with Police and American beer. Also check out Chicago's Original Pierogi Eating Contest. Open to all.
