Someone please explain to me what exactly Romney's plan is. I have heard nothing consistent at all, you get a different answer depending on who he's talking to. If you do the math his numbers don't add up, off by about 4 trillion. There's no way he can do the cuts and keep any of the tax deductions that most of middle american's count on, mortgage interest, property taxes, college deductions, etc.
I'd also like to know what jobs he's going to create as I've heard very little and at what pay. (reducing the minimum wage to $5.50 isn't going to cut it) Cutting taxes for the corporations to hire is a big farce, they could have done this during Bush and that didn't happen. They'd rather send the jobs overseas and pay these people 99cents an hour, some countries it's $2.00 a day.
As far as medicare I don't buy that the ones receiving it now will still continue to get it. Medicare is a pyramid and when younger workers stop putting money into it, it will run out. While I'm not thrilled with Obama I'm horrified about Romney. IMO, women will loose all rights and that would effect my girls. Equal pay for equal work. ( Vera quit with the abortion already and have an adult conversation about the economy, etc..)
Walt, there are a couple things I'm sure of. Others I would have to research. First, corporations do not pay taxes, they have to and do pass them on to their customers. Countries we compete with have much lower taxes than we do and we could sell more goods overseas requiring corporations to hire more people. Second, corporations like GM go overseas to manufacture cars they will be selling there just as foreign corporations have come here to manufacture cars they will be selling to us. Anyway, the more manufacturing, the more tax you can collect from the increased numbers of employed workers.
Collecting taxes is not a static game. When the government takes money out of the economy, of course it will depress the economy, so less revenue. So taxing authorities have to be careful they don't tax unnecessarily for frivolous purposes, like Big Bird which can survive with private donations and advertising, or for condoms that people can well afford to provide for themselves. And that includes Viagra.
Romney is about three, maybe four hours away from turning completely and totally into Tricky Dicky Nixon. He has said - and will continue to say - just about anything to just about anybody, provided that person is brain-dead enough to vote for him.

The country's current enormous debt is largely related to interest caused by the debt taken on during the Bush years and the fact that Bush kept the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan off the books. When President Obama took office, he insisted that the funding for the wars be included in the budget.

They don't perform mammograms. In any case, abortions are where PP makes its profits.
Annette - does your doctor perform mammograms? Does your doctor perform blood work? they do however provide you the paperwork to go and get them. In the case of PP, it is PP that covers the cost of them.

But you might consider familiarizing yourself with the GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, who calls himself as "pro-life as a person gets" and the Republican platform, which includes a human life amendment (a fertilized egg “shall have all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood”) and strict anti-abortion language that has no exceptions for rape, incest, or life/health of the pregnant woman. So while you're right that the vast majority of Republicans have no intention of getting rid of abortion, the politicians you've chosen to represent you DO have that intention. It is their money until after it is spent. That is, until Obamacare. Just to clarify, Planned Parenthood does directly provide breast exams, but only the hands-on variety that doctors administer. This is different from mammograms, which require x-rays.
Planned Parenthood recommends a mammogram once a year for women 40 and above, whereas it advises younger women to undergo a breast exam every one to three years.

Right now I have no healthcare. My employer's don't offer it and I can't afford the $700.00 a month premium it would cost for only me. I have a pre-existing condition, no one wants to insure a person like me.
We can send millions of dollars of money overseas to help other countries but we can't take care of our own. We can go to 2 wars, that did nothing but put us in a big fat hole, yet we can't take care of the people that are here paying taxes.
I use to think this was the greatest country in the world but that's beginning to change. We give 2 rats butts about the people here, we ship more jobs over seas than we create here, our children fall way behind in education compared to the rest of the world, we feel it's best to give millionaires tax breaks instead of making sure our elderly get their retirement to live out their years and while they're at it they'll raise gas to 5 bucks a gallon and chain the women to the kitchen stove.
Walt - I couldn't agree more. If my employment didn't offer health benefits, I would not be able to afford it either. I have a friend who had a lump found in her breast and needed an ultrasound (turned out to be nothing) but because of that, insurance companies claimed she was a 'cancer risk' and her premiums were $1,700 a month. So she goes without.
We treat our criminals better than our homeless. Criminals are able to get 3 square meals and free health care. But when someone needs help treating their terminal illness we expect their families to go bankrupt just to try to get them care.
I think people are shading their eyes to what will happen if the R&R boys get in. Their elderly will have no social security benefits and the medicare vouchers will run out and treatments will need to halt. It's going to be a terrible place to live come Jan 2014 with those two in office.
Emily glad to hear that your friend is ok! I'm legally deaf in one ear and that becomes a problem for the insurers. What some people don't understand is there's a day coming when they'll dock you for having too many colds or if your kid ends up in the E.R. with a broken bone.
The E.R. is becoming the doctor's office for many. This is the most expensive place to receive care but people can't be turned away due to no-insurance. Have you ever seen some of these emergency rooms, there's usually a 3-4 hr wait to see anyone. I see this problem only getting worse.
It's a crime that we can give tax breaks or allow the big boys to pay 14% in taxes and ship the jobs overseas. Yet we can't take care of children with cancer and give them proper medical care. I can't tell you the number of kids I saw whose parents were fighting tooth and nail to get them the treatment they needed. This is like the abortions of the living. If you can't afford or don't have insurance you're headed for what the nurses nicknamed the dying rooms. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, makes a person sick. Imagine if it was your child! No one here is safe from getting cut off, it can happen in an instant!

I worked with C Charities, and they are constantly sponsoring foreigners, from india, africa, cuba, and the list goes on. and once they get here CC house's them (Yes pays their rent for years) ,case managers take them down to get food stamps and a medical card and they are automatically approve.
You or I or any other american who has paid into the system, are denied for all the aformentioned benefits that the foreigners get. oh and they get enrolled into COD to take classes For free too

If a 12 year old girl goes to the hospital and wants to have an abortion, the doctor is not allowed to discuss with her parents unless she gives her OK. I don't understand why some of you think PP is the only place in this country where abortions are performed. The Morning After Pill is not the Abortion Pill. The Morning After Pill can only try to prevent pregnancy. However, if a woman is pregnant she can take that every day and it won't do anything. Morning After Pill is provided at any pharmacy nationwide and you do not need a prescription (If you're over 18 years of age) to receive it.
PP's agenda is to provide affordable health care to women who cannot otherwise afford it.
I had a friend who was not provided health coverage through her employer and use to go to PP for her cancer screenings and prescriptions. Her pap and 3 month supply of birth control was only $150. At my physician, I was paying $260 for the pap alone.

You have to wait in line. Why? They can't afford the multiple systems of care we have, the doctors are not well paid, they are essentially bureaucrats who work for the system. You should say how we will pay for a good health care system that takes care of everyone without the long waits that many Europeans and Canadians have to put up with because of the scarcity of doctors and expensive diagnostic equipment. Yes, you are wrong about a couple of things. First off, the ACA is not a European style health system, it's not socialized medicine. It's only providing access and coverage to many who couldn't obtain it on their own. The manner in which patients are treated isn't changing at all. It really comes down to being insurance reform, not health care reform.
Secondly, who projected the ACA will raise the deficit (I think you mean debt) by $2 trillion? The CMS has projected a savings over the next 10 years.
Annette my brothers fiancé is from Poland and she says the health care system there does not work and after a certain age you are considered to old for specific care! She's even followed up on Obamacare and sees similarities to the same system in Poland and thinks we are are doomed for proper care.
I occasionally hear from East European immigrants who came here for a better life but see our country going the way of the Europeans and they are worried. People here seem to think we can make heaven earth if we only do things right. but nothing in life is really free, you have to pay for it one way or another. I don’t understand why I’m a “troll” for attempting to find the humor in national politics and for poking fun at politicians (something editorial cartoonists have been doing for decades). My motives don’t go much further than trying to prompt a laugh or a smile.
Sure, I enjoy seeing my cartoons spark an exchange of views. But it does disturb me when the exchanges become nasty. I think the nastiness generated by a relatively small number of people has little to do with my cartoons and much more to do with how divided this country has become. I certainly am not “creating a hostile environment.” The hostility is coming from a small percentage of people who feel compelled to push their own ideology upon others.
I’ve drawn plenty of cartoons that have nothing to do with politics, and I’ll continue to do so. But with the election so close at hand and with the campaigns providing so much fodder for material, it’s a tough subject for any editorial cartoonist to ignore.
Above all, I would urge everyone to have more of a sense of humor when it comes to my (admittedly) silly cartoons. We all need to smile more than ever these days!

You post comics to get a certain response, a response that will pit one side against another. The fact that this comic has generated the exact same response as the last comic that you did and the fact that the Patch continues this thread even though none of the comments have anything to do with the comic shows that you both want this to happen, in other words, trolling.
If the Patch did not want this to go on, the thread could be ended. There are currently over 250 posts and only a handful reference your comic.
So, whether intentional or not, the fact is that your comics do create a hostile environment on this website and the Patch is allowing it to continue....otherwise known as trolling.

With permission from my sister and to make a long story short my nephew committed suicide after being raped by a Catholic Priest for years. There was 24 children who had their souls raped on a daily basis and all the church did was cover this up. This priest was caught and is now in prison but only after years spent in a court room and having the living children (now adults) relive this nightmare. The church paid a hefty settlement which meant nothing after what they did to these children and their families.
I use to go to a Catholic church, CCD and alter boy and not once did we read from the bible it was the scriptures which I find to be different from what I have read in the bible.
FYI Vera 24 children raped, 18 boys, 6 girls and 4 who became pregnant. They were given abortions courtesy of the Catholic church. Someone please explain to me what exactly Romney's plan is. I have heard nothing consistent at all, you get a different answer depending on who he's talking to. If you do the math his numbers don't add up, off by about 4 trillion. There's no way he can do the cuts and keep any of the tax deductions that most of middle american's count on, mortgage interest, property taxes, college deductions, etc.
I'd also like to know what jobs he's going to create as I've heard very little and at what pay. (reducing the minimum wage to $5.50 isn't going to cut it) Cutting taxes for the corporations to hire is a big farce, they could have done this during Bush and that didn't happen. They'd rather send the jobs overseas and pay these people 99cents an hour, some countries it's $2.00 a day.
As far as medicare I don't buy that the ones receiving it now will still continue to get it. Medicare is a pyramid and when younger workers stop putting money into it, it will run out. While I'm not thrilled with Obama I'm horrified about Romney. IMO, women will loose all rights and that would effect my girls. Equal pay for equal work. ( Vera quit with the abortion already and have an adult conversation about the economy, etc..)

Walt, there are a couple things I'm sure of. Others I would have to research. First, corporations do not pay taxes, they have to and do pass them on to their customers. Countries we compete with have much lower taxes than we do and we could sell more goods overseas requiring corporations to hire more people. Second, corporations like GM go overseas to manufacture cars they will be selling there just as foreign corporations have come here to manufacture cars they will be selling to us. Anyway, the more manufacturing, the more tax you can collect from the increased numbers of employed workers.
Collecting taxes is not a static game. When the government takes money out of the economy, of course it will depress the economy, so less revenue. So taxing authorities have to be careful they don't tax unnecessarily for frivolous purposes, like Big Bird which can survive with private donations and advertising, or for condoms that people can well afford to provide for themselves. And that includes Viagra.

The pro-abortion rights Alan Guttmacher Institute reports that there have been nearly 50 million abortions performed since 1973, the year the Supreme Court issued the Roe v. Wade decision ushering in legal abortion nationwide.
In 2008, Guttmacher says, there were 1.2 million "legally terminated pregnancies" in the United States, based on reports complied from state and local health agencies -- down from 1.3 million the year previous.
According to Guttmacher, 35 percent of all U.S. women will have had an abortion by age 45.
Guttmacher also reports that 93 percent of all abortions occur for “social reasons” such as a mother’s decision that the child is unwanted or “inconvenient.” [THAT is what "choice" is all about. Regarding Ryan, do you know where Biden disagrees with Obama? He does and keeps quiet about it. I am sure you know that vice presidents follow the line of the president. It is their money until after it is spent. That is, until Obamacare. Democrats loaded their "wish list" of benefits onto the insurance we and our employers have to pay for whether we want them or not. That makes all insurance more costly as nothing is free. In addition, we may no longer have high deductible insurance plans which many independent small business have or none at all. We are sacrificing the many for the few. And I don't know one Catholic hospital from another, never go to them.

Thank you C B Smith for the info. They do provide medical services to the ones who have no insurance. I know they helped my wife after we lost our health care. That would be a "BIG" thanks to Bain Capital for taking my job overseas.
Right now I have no healthcare. My employer's don't offer it and I can't afford the $700.00 a month premium it would cost for only me. I have a pre-existing condition, no one wants to insure a person like me.
We can send millions of dollars of money overseas to help other countries but we can't take care of our own. We can go to 2 wars, that did nothing but put us in a big fat hole, yet we can't take care of the people that are here paying taxes.
I use to think this was the greatest country in the world but that's beginning to change. We give 2 rats butts about the people here, we ship more jobs over seas than we create here, our children fall way behind in education compared to the rest of the world, we feel it's best to give millionaires tax breaks instead of making sure our elderly get their retirement to live out their years and while they're at it they'll raise gas to 5 bucks a gallon and chain the women to the kitchen stove.
This country is so screwed up!

Walt - I couldn't agree more. If my employment didn't offer health benefits, I would not be able to afford it either. I have a friend who had a lump found in her breast and needed an ultrasound (turned out to be nothing) but because of that, insurance companies claimed she was a 'cancer risk' and her premiums were $1,700 a month. So she goes without.
We treat our criminals better than our homeless. Criminals are able to get 3 square meals and free health care. But when someone needs help treating their terminal illness we expect their families to go bankrupt just to try to get them care.
I think people are shading their eyes to what will happen if the R&R boys get in. Their elderly will have no social security benefits and the medicare vouchers will run out and treatments will need to halt. It's going to be a terrible place to live come Jan 2014 with those two in office.

Emily glad to hear that your friend is ok! I'm legally deaf in one ear and that becomes a problem for the insurers. What some people don't understand is there's a day coming when they'll dock you for having too many colds or if your kid ends up in the E.R. with a broken bone.
The E.R. is becoming the doctor's office for many. This is the most expensive place to receive care but people can't be turned away due to no-insurance. Have you ever seen some of these emergency rooms, there's usually a 3-4 hr wait to see anyone. I see this problem only getting worse.
It's a crime that we can give tax breaks or allow the big boys to pay 14% in taxes and ship the jobs overseas. Yet we can't take care of children with cancer and give them proper medical care. I can't tell you the number of kids I saw whose parents were fighting tooth and nail to get them the treatment they needed. This is like the abortions of the living. If you can't afford or don't have insurance you're headed for what the nurses nicknamed the dying rooms. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, makes a person sick. Imagine if it was your child! No one here is safe from getting cut off, it can happen in an instant!

I agree so much with you. This country has always been A-backwards.
I worked with C Charities, and they are constantly sponsoring foreigners, from india, africa, cuba, and the list goes on. and once they get here CC house's them (Yes pays their rent for years) ,case managers take them down to get food stamps and a medical card and they are automatically approve.
You or I or any other american who has paid into the system, are denied for all the aformentioned benefits that the foreigners get. oh and they get enrolled into COD to take classes For free too
I am all for helping others, But USA need to take care of their own first.
The educatonal system yes is screwed up.
Elderly care and benefits or lack of is screwed up on so many levels, to many to list .
Taxation has always been crazy unfair, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, that seem like the game plan for Politicians
I am happy to see a president wanting to make some changes there. But so many things need to be changed, so many things are broken.
well obama care will take you with pre existing conditions. There is no one answer.
But what i do want to say in all sincerity, is that i hope and pray things turn around for you and others that are in this situation, not having healthcare isnot good as we all know.
and your wife deserved the help and i believe many other women have or will need it at some point as a long/short temporary means.

Annette - Romney declared half of the green energy business have gone out of business. Half. Meaning 50%. When in fact, out of the 63 business created, 5 of them went out of business. You do the math.
If a 12 year old girl goes to the hospital and wants to have an abortion, the doctor is not allowed to discuss with her parents unless she gives her OK. I don't understand why some of you think PP is the only place in this country where abortions are performed. The Morning After Pill is not the Abortion Pill. The Morning After Pill can only try to prevent pregnancy. However, if a woman is pregnant she can take that every day and it won't do anything. Morning After Pill is provided at any pharmacy nationwide and you do not need a prescription (If you're over 18 years of age) to receive it.
PP's agenda is to provide affordable health care to women who cannot otherwise afford it.
I had a friend who was not provided health coverage through her employer and use to go to PP for her cancer screenings and prescriptions. Her pap and 3 month supply of birth control was only $150. At my physician, I was paying $260 for the pap alone.

I'm sure everyone posting here, except the snarky SBSmith, cares about the poor, the disabled, the hungry, etc. But you don't say how we would pay for it. to use a word from Obama, European health care is not optimal. You have to wait in line. Why? They can't afford the multiple systems of care we have, the doctors are not well paid, they are essentially bureaucrats who work for the system. You should say how we will pay for a good health care system that takes care of everyone without the long waits that many Europeans and Canadians have to put up with because of the scarcity of doctors and expensive diagnostic equipment. Ordinary American can't afford to fly to Cuba or wherever to get better service. Obama has arranged for multiple taxes to pay for it but it's been projected that Obamacare will still raise our deficit by another $2 trillion. Am I wrong?

Yes, you are wrong about a couple of things. First off, the ACA is not a European style health system, it's not socialized medicine. It's only providing access and coverage to many who couldn't obtain it on their own. The manner in which patients are treated isn't changing at all. It really comes down to being insurance reform, not health care reform.
Secondly, who projected the ACA will raise the deficit (I think you mean debt) by $2 trillion? The CMS has projected a savings over the next 10 years.

People here seem to think we can make heaven earth if we only do things right. but nothing in life is really free, you have to pay for it one way or another. I don’t understand why I’m a “troll” for attempting to find the humor in national politics and for poking fun at politicians (something editorial cartoonists have been doing for decades). My motives don’t go much further than trying to prompt a laugh or a smile.
Sure, I enjoy seeing my cartoons spark an exchange of views. But it does disturb me when the exchanges become nasty. I think the nastiness generated by a relatively small number of people has little to do with my cartoons and much more to do with how divided this country has become. I certainly am not “creating a hostile environment.” The hostility is coming from a small percentage of people who feel compelled to push their own ideology upon others.
I’ve drawn plenty of cartoons that have nothing to do with politics, and I’ll continue to do so. But with the election so close at hand and with the campaigns providing so much fodder for material, it’s a tough subject for any editorial cartoonist to ignore.
Above all, I would urge everyone to have more of a sense of humor when it comes to my (admittedly) silly cartoons. We all need to smile more than ever these days!

You post comics to get a certain response, a response that will pit one side against another. The fact that this comic has generated the exact same response as the last comic that you did and the fact that the Patch continues this thread even though none of the comments have anything to do with the comic shows that you both want this to happen, in other words, trolling.
If the Patch did not want this to go on, the thread could be ended. There are currently over 250 posts and only a handful reference your comic.
So, whether intentional or not, the fact is that your comics do create a hostile environment on this website and the Patch is allowing it to continue....otherwise known as trolling.

Abortion(induced miscarriage) was practiced at the exact same time the bible was written, yet in the entire book a punishment is not mentioned a single time.
In fact, the exact opposite is true. The bible specifically assigns 'value' to people according to their age. newborns less than one month old are assigned no value at all.

(this same verse also give more 'monetary value' to men, than women, but that is a whole other conversation.)
Where you are getting this idea from is curious, because it certainly isn't coming form the bible that your beliefs are supposed to be based on.

We do and think as we are taught by our relugious leaders and God. Just like any profession , if we have a problem or have a question we contact a professional in their field. This verse was given to me by a theologian when we were having a friendly discussion about abortion. He liked to point out the fact that NOWHERE in the bible is abortion even mentioned. He was saddened how people will twist the word of his god for nothing but political purposes, and wishes it would stop. This is the elephant in the room for those in certain sects of Christianity.
I think if you ever actually talked to a theologian, you would understand that they are usually not going to come down on your 'interpretive' readings of your belief system.
It's too complicated? Seems odd that they wouldn't have been more exact about it, in the book that is supposed to be the word of god. Or maybe the lack of it being in there at all, means that what you are claiming is not actually part of the teachings of christ.

read the bible about 30 years ago. at the time it wasn't for the usual reasons, but that's another story. however, in thise case, vera/pro life is correct, it does say thou shalt not kill. I don't take a stand on either side on this, there are exceptions either way, but I didn't like it when tim said that the bible didn't condemn it. Whether you believe in creation or evolution just read the ten commandments. if people lived their lives by those simple rules (thou shalt not kill,steal, lie,etc) we'd all be way better off. sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent like some others we know. been following the posts, not wanting to get involved, but I had to.

Well, its a good thing that the bible doesn't consider a life until the child is one month old.
Nothing at all about abortion being 'evil' or as 'killing', but there is a passage that sets the fine for an unwanted abortion caused by an assault. No punishment at all if it is intentional. Got that? NO PUNISHMENT AT ALL IF THE ABORTION IS INTENTIONAL.
So no, there is no passage in the bible that states that abortion is wrong, and identifying 'thou shalt not kill' is not a valid response when it is not considered a life until one month after birth.
You will either have to admit that your bible contradicts itself(which would mean ALL of it is invalid), or your church leaders are telling you something that is not in the bible at all, and using it for political purposes.

Tim is correct! I just finished reading the exact quotation that Tim speaks of.
With permission from my sister and to make a long story short my nephew committed suicide after being raped by a Catholic Priest for years. There was 24 children who had their souls raped on a daily basis and all the church did was cover this up. This priest was caught and is now in prison but only after years spent in a court room and having the living children (now adults) relive this nightmare. The church paid a hefty settlement which meant nothing after what they did to these children and their families.
I use to go to a Catholic church, CCD and alter boy and not once did we read from the bible it was the scriptures which I find to be different from what I have read in the bible.
FYI Vera 24 children raped, 18 boys, 6 girls and 4 who became pregnant. They were given abortions courtesy of the Catholic church. If the church would agree to an FOIA you could read the 800+ pages of court transcripts that each living survivor gave, along with the admission that the church covered it up. There were 4 boys who weren't there and one was my nephew who took his own life so the priest wouldn't kill his parents for telling. ( the priest threatened to kill his parents if he told). Vera it isn't old news as there's a case being investigated right now. This happens all too often and could all stop if the Vatican would take responsibility. No ones asking you to forgo your faith, I also have faith and it lies in our creator himself.
We do have something in common, I also have t-shirt. Mine has a picture of the priest that raped my nephew on the front and on the back is the cardinal and bishop that knew about this and allowed it to happen. I went to the abortion protest in Plainfield and stood on the corner with my shirt and signs of the priest. I walk up and down the side walks outside of churches where I know the quilty are and many people have left those churches. They have moved the cardinal around so many times that they have actually transferred him out of state, they should transfer him to hell but that's where God will send him.

FYI: 3 buses of Com-Ed workers left last night for the East Coast to help bring up services. I'm heading out at 2am with my outreach group from church. We have been packing up clothing, toiletries, diapers, bedding, food etc...
With this kind of disaster it takes time to get everyone up and running. There's major gas leeks, lines down everywhere and flooding beyond belief. President Obama has sent in the national guard, food is getting in and much needed medical care. Before spewing your mouth once again you really should find out what's going on.
