I don't think they're going far enough on the deductions. Flat tax 10%, no deductions. Let me repeat NO deductions. Years ago they eliminated deducting the interest on credit cards and auto loans. Why? Because not everyone had those deductions. Mortgages, children, gambling......these are all personal choices just as purchasing a new car or having a boatload of credit cards to deduct. Why should folks be entitled to more deductions than other folks? If someone has no mortgage or no children, they have no deductions. How is that fair?

Majority of the country works, even the majority of the 47% paying no taxes. 18% of the country pay no payroll taxes, meaning 82% WORK. Of those 18%, half are seniors like me that get social security.

That leaves a total of 9% that are making below $20,000 and don't pay any taxes, the poorest of the poor.

And majority of the rest pay State income tax, local and state sales taxes.

As for entitlements, contrary to Romney's portrayal, more than 90% of entitlement benefits go to the elderly, seriously disabled or members of working households, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Vera, I am a Catholic and what Cardinal George did was despicable. Knowingly protecting an abusive priest is a crime and allowing him to further abuse makes him a partner in crime. Really no different than the getaway driver being charged with murder because the bank robber shot and killed somebody. Another Cardinal was recently charged, convicted and sentenced to prison for the same thing.

This is not something we, as Catholics should be proud of or defending. It's a shameful part of our history.
