CHICAGO, IL – Mount Carmel High School President Fr. Tony Mazurkiewicz, O.Carm., and Principal John Stimler are pleased to announce that 16 Mount Carmel students have been recognized as 2013-14 Illinois State Scholars.
The prestigious award is given annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). Illinois State Scholar winners rank in the top ten percent of high school seniors from 749 different high schools across the state. Selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and/or class rank at the end of the junior year. Mount Carmel guidance counselors work in conjunction with ISAC to determine the winners.
“We are extremely proud of the 16 students selected to receive this esteemed award,” said Stimler. “Our community congratulates them on this honor, as well as their parents who support their academic efforts. We also thank the outstanding group of teachers who help prepare students to receive this honor year after year at Mount Carmel.”
“At Mount Carmel we are proud to build young men of character and these 16 students certainly exemplify that,” added Fr. Mazurkiewicz. “This honor is a reflection of the hard work and dedication these students show in the classroom every day.”
