'Happy Birthday, Megan!' Benefit at Arena Lanes

On Saturday, February 2nd, Oak Lawn’s Arena Lanes was taken over by the Hurckes family and friends to celebrate the life of Megan, the late daughter of former Oak Lawn trustee Jerry Hurckes, during the family’s annual bowling benefit.

The event was started to help raise money for the Megan Hurckes Scholarship Fund, which is aimed to help students get through school. Among the $40,000 the family raised prior to the event, money has also gone to different community organizations like Westside Baseball and the Oak Lawn Children’s Museum.

It was a night of fun for everyone; both adults and children alike. If you weren’t able to make it this year, don’t worry, plans are already in the works for next year’s event, and it’s never too late to donate. Checks can be made payable to the Megan Hurckes Scholarship Foundation, c/o 7036 W. 96th St., Oak Lawn, IL, 60453.

The annual birthday bash is always such a beautiful event celebrating the life of Megan. This was the 3rd year we attended and always have such a great time. It is truly awe-inspiring to see how the Hurkes family has chosen to honor the memory of their beloved daughter. What a caring, friendly community we live in. The place was packed!! Fun night for all ages. Arena owners Bill, Millie, and Melissa Bard along with Manager Linda Rodriguez did a great job taking care of all the guests.

Thanks for your comment, and I agree! I think it's a great thing that the family does (both the charity efforts and the benefit itself) and it's always an honor to work at the event. It's also nice to see the generosity of others in the community. The response was great; impressive crowd of all ages for sure!
