Anything Can Happen in Oak Lawn's Wild Village Board Races

Whether it's a blowout or a nail biter, the 2013 village board races are bound to produce a few surprises.

It’s almost over. After six months of posturing, spleen venting, mudslinging, show-tune singing and viral-ops, Patch commenting, Oak Lawn residents who didn’t vote early will head to the polls tomorrow. Many people have asked who we think will win the mayoral, clerk and trustee races. The answer is: we don’t know. Read up on all the Oak Lawn Village Board candidates at Election Central 2013. Two years ago, election night was shaping up to be one of the most boring evenings we ever spent, when Dan Sodaro came within eleven votes of squeezing out the four-term incumbent, Bob Streit, who had Sodaro tossed off the ballot for third district trustee. So we don’t know how the hell these races will turn out. With so many uncontested races for our …

I have seen so many homeless people walking down Cicero Avenue, 95-Th St. and all over Oak Lawn. I bet that many are veterans. This is America !!!!! What a shame. Maybe the Oak Lawn Government should not fight and find a solution for this problem. Lets develope shelters from these political signs.   more ›

Bury Wins Village Clerk Jane Quinlan’s Endorsement for Mayor

Oak Lawn Village Clerk Jane Quinlan endorses Sandra Bury for mayor, stating, "I truly believe this is a better direction for all the residents in Oak Lawn."

With just a few days left to spare before voters head to the polls on Tuesday, Oak Lawn mayoral challenger Sandra Bury won the endorsement of incumbent village clerk Jane Quinlan. Quinlan, whose been distancing herself from the battling village board candidates, is running as an independent. She’s stayed away from the controversy that’s marked the contentious 2013 Oak Lawn elections. Over 1,800 residents, however, have already cast their votes for mayor and village trustee. Read up on all the Oak Lawn Village Board candidates in Election Central 2013. Asked why she endorsed underdog Bury so late in the game, Quinlan said she’d been thinking about it for a while. “I think Sandy could be a positive leader for Oak Lawn,” the village clerk …

Making Oak Lawn Better

Joe Sorrentino asks that voters remember him as an independent candidate for Dist. 6 trustee when they go to the polling booth on Tuesday, April 9.

By JOE SORRENTINO This is a critical time for our Village, a time when our community finds itself confronted by challenges and problems; challenges which can be met and problems capable of being overcome if we pull together and work for a better tomorrow.  Regardless of our political leanings, it is imperative that we exercise our right to vote and have our voices heard.  In these closing hours before our election, I respectfully ask you to consider the following. THE ELECTION OF 2013 AND WHAT PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER People will likely remember many things about this election.  I hope the voters take from my candidacy that I was a TRUE INDEPENDENT; independent in thought, independent of party affiliation, independent of corporate sponsorship…

REBUTTAL: Phelan Responds to Mayor's 'Paranoid Delusions'

Trustee Tom Phelan responds to Mayor Dave Heilmann's accusations in mayor's campaign for re-election.

By TOM PHELAN A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.-- Winston Churchill I am taking this opportunity to respond to the litany of LIES that Oak Lawn Mayor Dave Heilmann has been putting forth in his campaign for re-election, the latest being his April 5th Oak Lawn Patch editorial, but in actuality going back to July of 2009 when my fellow Trustees and I discovered a massive fraud and cover-up perpetrated by Dave Heilmann related to the legal representation of his lawyer friends. To address ALL of Heilmann’s LIES would require the entire editorial section of the Oak Lawn Patch, and probably every other community Patch from here to the Wisconsin border. So for purposes of this response I am …

Duhig Stands by Record on Christ Hospital Expansion

Trustee Tom Duhig says opponent never showed up to community or planning commission meetings on Advocate Christ Medical Center expansion.

By TOM DUHIG I am writing in response to a letter written by one of my opponents and published in the Patch Thursday morning. In the letter, he asks “What has happened” in the last four years in regards to the Advocate Christ Medical Center expansion.  Since Mr. Vorderer has not attended a single planning or community meeting involving the hospital until he launched his political campaign, it is no surprise that he is clueless as to the strides the Village has taken to ensure that the responsible growth of Christ Hospital will not come on the backs of Oak Lawn taxpayers.  I would like to take this opportunity to inform the residents exactly what has happened over the past four years and my plan for the next four years.  I have attended …
