Chicago Family directions is a non-profit 501(c) (3) charity providing\, at no cost\, consistent\, long-term tutoring to homeless and impoverished K-12 students in the Chicago Public Schools to prepare them for college\, careers and an adult life without homelessne ss.\nConsidering homeless students are twice as likely to score lower on standardized tests\, providing one on one tutoring to these students gi ves them a huge advantage. Research indicates that 43 percent of homeles s students repeat a grade\, 25 percent are placed in special education\, and 50 percent are failing academically (Bassuk &\; Rubin\, 1987).
