More About Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School
Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School is a Catholic educational community committed to providing a quality secondary education for young women, offering a rigorous education grounded in the Catholic faith.
Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, the high school has been educating young women of high school age since 1846. Mother McAuley is the largest all-girls Catholic high school in the United States. The high school draws a significant portion of its student population from Oak Lawn's Catholic elementary schools, including St. Gerald, St. Germaine, St. Linus, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Louis de Montfort.
The school provides a learning environment that uniquely nurtures young women's learning styles and self-confidence. The curriculum continues young women's faith formation within the Catholic tradition that fosters value-based decision making in all aspects of life in high school and beyond.
Mother McAuley offers premier, well-appointed facilities including state-of-the-art fine arts, science, technology and art programs on its present campus that opened in 1956. Students may choose from an extensive menu of courses and activities offered in a community atmosphere. Its liberal arts program encourages girls to think critically, communicate effectively, respond compassionately to the needs of their community and assume roles of Christian leadership.
SAT/ACT scores surpass national coed levels and 99 percent of its graduates continue their education, according to the school's website. The school also offers a wide variety of co-curricular clubs and activities where young women can continue to nurture their talents and gifts outside the classroom.
Financial and tuition assistance is provided to qualifying students, as well as scholarships set up by school alumnae. A learning resource center and tutoring are also available to students who need extra academic help.
The school's athletic programs have also earned state and national recognition in interscholastic sports, including the Mighty Macs' 13 Illinois state volleyball championships.
Mother McAuley boasts a significant alumnae daughter population that continues the school's tradition of excellence.
