TONIGHT: Jazz, Blues, Samba At SIP, With Mystery Guest Jam

Also, a vintage, mid-1940s wooden playpen is for sale, plus the Patch Mason jar salad all in 'Today in Oak Lawn.'

If you're looking for a change of pace from the usual south suburban cover bands, head down to SIP Appetizer Bar and Grill tonight and hear some great music tonight. It's jazz, samba and blues Thursday, featuring Catherine Whitney on vocals and Peter Lerner on guitar. Tonight, Catherine and Peter welcome some surprise guests for a special jam, one of which we hear is a hell of a blues musician. Couple your evening of sophisticated entertainment with some great gourmet appetizers and incredible wine. Live music starts at 7:30 p.m. SIP is located at 4911 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn.

Antique Playpen for Sale

An antique, wooden playpen from the 1940s caught my eye on our Buy/Sell/Trade boards. According to the seller, Daniel Unitis, the vintage playpen is in pretty good condition, considering it’s over 60 years old.

It has all its parts, including the original four wooden wheels used to push it across a slab home’s living room floor back in the day.

The only thing missing is the padding that was once in the bottom of the playpen. Unitis was asking $50 for the baby-boomer antique.

Reader Jim Anderson called it a steal, and commented that he thought Unitis wasn’t asking enough for it. I don’t know what the growing rate for vintage playpens from the 1940s is, but that’s what I call honesty.

Here's some more information if you're interested in buying the playpen.

Patch Mason Jar Salad #1 With A Bullet

Apparently the Patch Mason jar salad was a huge hit. A reader raves: “What a great idea for the lazy among us! I can put up three or four days of salad at a time! Then come dinner or lunch there it is, all good to go.”

Oak Lawn Patch loves Mason jars, too. We like to use them for storing our kerosene cucumbers, just like Aunt Bee.
