St. Laurence Hosts Open House

St. Laurence recently hosted their first Open House of the year with a successful turnout.

On Thursday, November 1, St. Laurence High School hosted their first Open House of the year.  The event was held for sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students and their families who were interested in the school.  Students, faculty, and parents of current students gave tours and answered questions for prospective students and their families.  There was a great turnout for the event, with a 20% increase of students compared to the average from the last six years.  Much of this great turnout is likely due to exciting new changes at the school.  St. Laurence recently hired a new president, Mr. Joe Martinez, who has started his first year here.  They have also hired a new athletic director and new head coaches in football, hockey, lacrosse, and wrestling.  Over 60% of the students participate in athletics at St. Laurence, and about half of these play multiple sports.

In addition to a rich athletic tradition, St. Laurence has recently introduced their new learning approach, StL STEM.  This stands for Spirituality, Leadership, Science, Technology, English, and Math.  This new approach will help students succeed and give them the tools they need to be leaders in this technological age.  Leadership opportunities are also provided through St. Laurence’s unique Leadership Program, the only one of its kind in the Midwest.  The school was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from State Farm Insurance, which they will use to update the existing technology infrastructure and provide more opportunities for engaging and interactive learning.

For anyone who missed the opportunity to see St. Laurence in action and learn more about the school, their second Open House will be held Sunday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to noon.
