Northwestern College Hosts 3-Day Training for Law Enforcement Conducted by Northeast Counterdrug Training Center

[Bridgeview, IL]  Northwestern College this week served as the host location of the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center’s (NCTC) 3-day course entitled, “Law Enforcement Intelligence - Basic” which was held May 27-29 at the College’s Bridgeview Campus. Law enforcement officers, correction officers, limited military personnel, and law enforcement support personnel attended the event which was taught by Sgt. Serell C. Ulrich, a frequent contractor for the NCTC. Sgt. Ulrich is an 18 year law enforcement officer who currently serves as the Eastern Sector Supervisor of the Pennsylvania State Police, BCI-Intelligence Division.

This training event was brought to Northwestern College with the assistance of Randy Meyers, the Administrative Director of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force as well as a Northwestern College Criminal Justice Instructor.  Meyers is also a retired Commander of the Oak Lawn Police Department. The NCTC training is free of charge to local law enforcement agencies, and with Northwestern College’s offer to host the location at no cost, over fifty (50) law enforcement officials in the area were able to take full advantage of it.

This 3-day, 24 hour NCTC course on basic intelligence was designed to provide attendees with a more broad-based view of the multiple, inter-related skills and techniques used for transforming data into useful work product. The course utilized the “Intelligence Cycle” to systematically process data from raw, unrelated information into “actionable” end products that provide a clearer understanding of the problems faced by police agencies today.

The Northeast Counterdrug Training Center serves military, state, federal, and local law enforcement officials and community prevention specialists by offering unique counterdrug training courses focused on topics such as operations and interdiction, interrogation, undercover operations, leadership, terrorism, intelligence, and drug demand reduction. Although located in Annville, Pennsylvania where it provides the majority of its training opportunities, conferences, and planning sessions, in 2007 NCTC developed its Mobile Training Teams (MTT) as a result of the growing demand for its specialized training.  MTTs effectively deliver NCTC course offerings (such as the Law Enforcement Intelligence - Basic course taught this week at Northwestern College) throughout an 18-state region and the District of Columbia. NCTC instructors are subject-matter experts with extensive education and training backgrounds and proven successes.  The NCTC courses are taught free of charge to local law enforcement, allowing them to obtain training that could otherwise cost local agencies significant funds.

Northwestern College continues to serve as a resource for the local law enforcement community by providing a venue for numerous training sessions and operations throughout the year.
