In the past ten days we gained about 75 Facebook likes climbing to 769, much of that attributed to Don Moust. Don is a big fan of Patch.

We’d also like to mention that our Facebook fans are genuine residents of Oak Lawn and other nearby communities. Not even the editor’s own family likes Oak Lawn Patch on Facebook. They like Deerfield Patch.

Possum Skeleton Alert

We alerted our readers to a possum skeleton found on the parkway on the west side of Minnick, south of Freshline, which lead to a conversation about the critter overpopulation in the neighborhood.

Diana Lepper:  “I've got a family of raccoons who like to hang out in my back yard...there are three of them.... have to do a raccoon check every time I go to let my little dog out!...wish they would find somewhere else to hang....”

Susan Stuba Reilly: “We have [raccoons] here in Eagle Ridge! We found one dead near the pond in our yard recently. Be careful if you see a live one. They are mean and will not back down when confronted by a dog.”

Sue Whiss: “I worry more about the fox and coyote with my dog. They are starting to show up quite a bit again in the neighborhood and now it is mating season for the coyote.”

Hometown National Foods

Some of our readers found newly inducted a blast from the 1970s past.

Kevin Ford: "Just reading her resume is a trip down memory lane. Was that the Hometown National Foods on 87th that became an A&P? It's great to have positive leadership in the Chamber."

'We Was Robbed!'

Oak Lawn's came within just a few hundred votes of beating Durbin's, a restaurant chain, in Evergreen Park, in Patch's first pizza playoffs. Some readers complained about the 'unscientific polling' methods.

John Quinn Mucker: "I'm sure both Grassano's and Durbin's have wonderful food, but... It seems that Pizza is not the only thing that was stuffed here!"
