Fourth of July Set to Unfurl in Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn residents will have plenty of time to show off their red, white and blue with events planned throughout the community on Friday, July 4.


Oak Lawn’s Fourth of July Parade


  • The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on the north side of 95th Street at 51st Street, proceeding west on 95th Street to 55th Court (from Cold Stone Creamery to Premo’s).

  • Numerous community groups, churches, clubs, businesses, schools and scout troops are expected to march.

  • Notable dignitaries include Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3), Mayor Sandra Bury, Village Manager Larry Deetjen, Clerk and Trustees; Sharon Brannigan (running for IL-3 Congress); Cook County Commissioner Dan Patlak

  • ; and Worth Township Commissioner and Trustees.

  • Notable mascots include Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Sky Stiltwalkers, Uncle Sam on Unicycle, Medina Genies (flying carpets) and classic car entries.


Star Spangled Fourth of July


After the parade, head over to Centennial Park at 94th Street and Nashville for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Star Spangled Fourth of July Celebration.


  • Events and activities take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring Guess How Many, Child Led Play, Kite Fly, Carnival Games, Bingo, ‘Ask the Horticulturist’ booth, Tattoos, pony rides, bean bags and inflatables.

  • $5 for children ages 2-12 (good all day), adults free.

  • New this year is the Freshline Watermelon Eating Contest for adults 18 and up. Register by 11 a.m., contest begins at 11:45 a.m. First five to register will compete for a prize.

  • Concessions available.

  • ALSO Open Swim - $2 per person, noon to 4 p.m. at Centennial Pool (94th and Nashville) and Central Pool (9400 S. Kenton Ave.).

  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Gymnastics

  • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tennis

  • Noon -  Treasure Hunt sponsored Oak Lawn Firefighters Local 3405

  • Noon - 1 p.m. Judo Demo

  • Noon - 1 p.m. Kin Ball

  • Noon - 2 p.m. Archery, whiffle ball

  • 1-2 p.m. Oak Lawn’s Got Talent

  • 1:15 – 2 p.m. Dodgeball

  • 2 p.m. Shoot the Puck


Family Concert and Fireworks Show


  • 6 p.m.  - Gates open at Richards High School, 10601 Central Ave. (106th Street and Central) for an evening of entertainment and sparkly fireworks, co-sponsored by the Village of Oak Lawn and Oak Lawn Park District.

  • Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and mosquito repellant.

  • 8 p.m. - Oak Lawn’s Got Talent winner

  • 8:15 p.m. -  The wacky Dave Rudolf and his musical henchman will be performing his family show before the evening fireworks. Dave’s interactive act gets kids and parents up on stage for every song singing or making funny noises. Dave will also be singing a few of his Dr. Demento-esque hits including “Mr. Potato Head Family,” “Lyphosuction Shack,” and many more.
