Pre-Easter Fun, Charitable Activities and Family Sports: Get Out!

Get out and stay out this weekend in Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park.

Where/When: , 9311 S. Francisco Ave., Evergreen Park, 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. April 15.

Why go: is holding its all-you-can-eat buffet with fried or baked fish, baked mostaccioli, cheese pizza and fries. Proceeds benefit the Adult Formation Center is set up for seniors needing a kid-free zone who can't handle stairs. There will be a $10 drawing for 32-inch HDTV. Open to all.

Pricing: Cost is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for children 6 and older. Children under 5 are free. Drink tickets for beer and wine are $1, pop and water is 50 cents, free coffee.

ST. BERNADETTE PASSION PLAY

Where/When: St. Bernadette Academy, 9311 S Francisco Ave, Evergreen Park, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. .

Why go: St. Bernadette School’s Junior High presents its annual Passion Play in church. Everyone is welcome and invited to follow Jesus through the Last Supper, Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Pricing: Can’t beat free.

 

NATURAL EGG DYEING WORKSHOP

Where/When: , 12700 Southwest Hwy., Palos Park, 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. .

Why go: Adult participants are invited to make a basket of colorful Easter eggs, dyed and embossed with cooked bark, berries, vegetables and other natural colorings, including earthy rose, sky blue, spring green, and golden hues, not the bright unnatural colors of commercial dyes. Participants should bring a basket of one or two dozen hardboiled eggs. The class will also make handmade paper grass.

SPARTAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

Where/When: , 5850 W. 103rd Street, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. .

Why go: The Spartan Educational Foundation of District 229 is will host a benefit dinner honoring distinguished retired teacher and speech/drama coach Tom Dzurison. Proceeds will go toward student scholarships and teacher mini-grants.

Pricing: $40 individual; $400 for a table

 

TAYLOR UNIVERSITY RINGERS AND BELL CHOIR

Where/When: , 9435 S. 54th Avenue, Oak Lawn, 7 p.m. April 15.

Why go: The Taylor Ringers is an advanced choir that rings five octaves of English handbells. The group consists of 13 college students (five men and eight women), all of whom have had previous bell ringing experience. The group rehearses two hours per week and performs a variety of musical styles, mostly levels 3, 4 and 5. Founded in 1982, the group has performed in various churches throughout the nation as well as at various music education conventions and bell choir festivals. Everyone is welcome.

Pricing: Can’t beat free.

 

SPRING FISHING CLASSIC AT LAKE CATHERINE

Where/When: , 7402 Lake Katherine Dr., Palos Heights, , 7 a.m. - noon.

Why go: Attendees can fish the entire shoreline of Lake Katherine. The 20-acre lake is home to muskie, largemouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, and bluegill, plus a variety of other fish and wildlife.

Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded, and the event includes a noon lunch.

Pricing: Only 125 tickets will be sold, allowing plenty of space for attendees. Tickets are $100.

 

WESTSIDE BASEBALL OPENING DAY

Where/when: Teams will assembly behind and march in a parade to the ball field at West 93rd Street and Oak Park Avenue in Oak Lawn, at 9:30 a.m. First game is at noon, April 16.

Why go: Cheer on the Westside Warriors and Lady Warriors as the battle other teams and because you can't beat fun at the old ballpark.

Pricing: The parade is free.
