Oak Lawn Chamber Celebrates Pets and Local Businesses

Annual "Spring into Summer" event features pet parade, vendor fair, new car show and live music on the Village Green, Saturday, June 21.


Start planning your pet’s outfit and grab some poop bags -- it’s time for the Oak Lawn Chamber’s annual “Spring Into Summer” pet parade, children’s activities, live music, car show and vendor fair on the Village Green.

Spend the longest day of the year springing into summer with the Oak Lawn Chamber from on the Village Green at Cook and Dumke. The event features a pet parade, new car show, vendor fair, music and other solstice frivolity. Pet rescue groups will also be joining the event this year, offering pet information and adoptions.

All events happen between 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 21.

“Spring Into Summer” kicks off with the annual neighborhood pet parade led by the award-winning Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Jazz Ensemble. Although dogs are usually the only pets that show up, all species are welcome to march in the parade.

The parade starts lining up a OLHMS at 54th Avenue and 99th Street at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. step-off, proceeding north on 54th Avenue, east on 96th Street/Yourell to Cook Avenue, to the parade finish line at the Village Green.

Prizes will be given for the best owner-pet look-a-like and best dressed pet, which for the past three years has gone to perennial winner Shadow the poodle.

The event finishes off with an evening concert performed by Full Circle playing classic rock, plus food and beverages, including beer and wine, will be sold.


Schedule of Events - Saturday, June 21


Oak Lawn Pet Parade:

  • 9:15 a.m. - Start lining up at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School, 54th Avenue and 99th Street.

  • 9:30 a.m. - Register for the Pet-Owner Look Alike and Best Dressed Pet competitions.

  • 10 a.m. - Pet Parade steps off, heading north on 54th Avenue over the railroad tracks; continuing east on 96th Street/Yourell Drive; then north on Cook Avenue.  Parade ends at Village Green at Cook and Dumke.

  • Vaccinated and leashed pets only, please.


Vendor Fair /New Car Show/Concert:

  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Vendor fair and new car show featuring over 40 area businesses, Oak Lawn auto dealers and pet rescue groups.

  • 10:45 to 3 p.m. - Children’s activities, including free pony rides from Memory Lane Stables in Willow Springs.

  • 11 a.m. to noon - Concert performed by the award-winning, Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Jazz Ensemble.

  • 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Bring your pet or friends over to the FREE photo booth sponsored by Mancari Chrysler for a souvenir photo.

  • 6 to 10 p.m. - Grab dinner on the village green and party with Full Circle, playing classic rock hits throughout the evening.
