Oak Lawn Chamber's Pet Parade Set for Saturday, June 8

Better get busy planning your pet’s funny costume for the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce’s annual Pet and Bike Parade that kicks off this Saturday, June 8.

We’re eager to see Shadow the gray poodle’s getup this year, after copping top honors for her “Pooch In the Box” and “Chia Pet” costumes in 2011 and 2012.

Pets and people will gather at the parade’s starting point at Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School at 99th Street and 54th Avenue starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Those who wish to enter the “best dressed pet” and “owner/pet look alike” contests also need to register before 9:30 a.m., for the judging that takes place at 9:45 a.m.

Patch hears there might be a pony this year. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. If you're watching by the sidelines, join in the march when it passes your house.

Here’s the parade route and a link to the parade route map, in case you want to watch from the curb and join the march toward the Village Green.

  • North on 54th Avenue
  • Over the Metra Tracks, east on 96th Street where it turns into Yourell
  • Yourell east to Cook Avenue
  • North on Cook across 95th Street to Dumke Drive.

After the parade, check out the vendor and car show on the Village Green. There will also be lots of free children’s activities, including a petting zoo, bus o’ fun, the Oak Lawn Fire Department’s fire pole, and MORE.

The pet and bike parade is a featured event of the Oak Lawn Chamber's “Spring Into Summer” weekend fest. Residents can stay informed of the latest developments by checking out the Oak Lawn Chamber’s “Spring Into Summer” Facebook page.
