The Beverly Area Planning Association is gearing up to host the 37th annual Ridge Run on Memorial Day, May 26. Registration is open now.
Each year, more than 3,500 athletes gather at Ridge Park on the South Side to compete in one of the city’s most popular races. The 10K run, 5K run/walk and Youth Mile are hosted by the Beverly Area Planning Association with Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park the presenting sponsor of the race.
The Ridge Run course runs through the center of the beautiful, residential Ridge Historic District, featuring the 10K and 5K “Ridge Run Challenge,” a trek up Chicago’s highest hill.
With cash prizes awarded to the top finishers, the Ridge Run attracts elite runners as well as neighborhood families. Start times are 8 a.m. for the 10K run, 8:10 a.m. for the youth mile for 6 to 12 year-olds, and 9:30 a.m. for the 5K run/walk. The Ridge Run’s three races start and finish at Ridge Park, 9625 S. Longwood Dr., Chicago.
Ridge Run was named one of the Runner’s Choice races by members of the Chicago Area Runner’s Association (CARA) in 2009. The run is known as one of Chicago’s friendliest races because thousands of Beverly and Morgan Park neighbors line the route, playing motivating music, cheering on the runners and offering water throughout the course.
Entertainment, food, the Beverly/Morgan Park Memorial Day Parade, Memorial Day service and community networking immediately follow the races and awards ceremonies. There will also be children's activities including a Tot Run, teddy bear clinic, and more
Registration for all three races is open now at the Ridge Park Field House, 9625 S. Longwood Dr., Chicago, or register online at the Beverly Area Planning Association website.
Volunteers are also needed on race day, including course marshalls, registration and packet pick up, and water stations. Individuals interested in volunteering can sign up online by emailing email@example.com.
