Ridge Run, Parade, Ceremonies Highlight Local Memorial Day Happenings
Find a list of the biggest local events around town this weekend.
Ridge Run 5K Walk/Run
More than 3,500 athletes gather at Ridge Park on the South Side to compete in one of the city’s most popular, friendly races. Volunteers are still needed for race day.
All races start and end at Ridge Park, 9625 S. Longwood Dr., Chicago.
- 8 a.m. - 10K
- 8:10 a.m. - Dick O’Neill Youth Mile
- 9:30 a.m. - 5K Walk/Run
- 10:15 a.m. - Tot Trot (on Ridge Park lawn)
- 11:30 a.m. - Memorial Day Service
Memorial Day service and community networking immediately follow the races and awards ceremonies. There will also be children's activities including a Tot Run, teddy bear clinic, and more

Beverly/Morgan Park/Mount Greenwood Memorial Day Parade
The Beverly Hills/Morgan Park/Mount Greenwood Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony is one of Chicago’s oldest Memorial Day festivities and is organized by the Beverly Area Planning Association.
- 10:30 a.m., immediately following the Ridge Run
- Parade route - 110th and Longwood Drive and proceeding north to Ridge Park, 97th and Longwood Drive. Memorial Day activities at Ridge Park include a Color Guard ceremony remembering men and women of the United States armed forces, both past and present.
Oak Lawn Bible Church Memorial Day Observance
Join the Oak Lawn Bible Church for a Memorial Day Service held in conjunction with the Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 and the Green Oaks American Legion Post 757, led by associate pastor, Dr. Martin Stuck, who is himself, a WWII veteran.
- 10 a.m. - Service
- Where: 9435 S. 54th Avenue, Oak Lawn
Oak Lawn Memorial Day Ceremony
Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 will be holding a Memorial Day ceremony to mourn the men and women who have died serving their country. Refreshments will be served at the VFW Hall immediately following the ceremony. The public is invited.
- 11:15 a.m.
- Oak Lawn Veterans Memorial, north of the Oak Lawn Library on Cook Avenue
- Refreshments immediately following the ceremony at Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220, 9514 S. 52nd Ave. (52nd Avenue and Yourell Avenue)
