Sail into Summer: Get Out!

Outdoor fun, theater and honoring the military. Events around Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park.

Where/when: Oak View Center, 4625 W. 110th St., Oak Lawn, June 3-4 at 8 p.m.; June 5 at 3 p.m.; June 10-11 at 8 p.m. and June 12 at 3 p.m.

Why go: The Oak Lawn Park District Theatre performs Sugar, a musical based on the great Billy Wilder film Some Like it Hot. A couple of down-on-their-luck musicians inadvertently witness the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and disguise themselves as dames to join an all-girl band to escape Chicago.

Pricing: Tickets are available at the Oak View Center; $21 for adults; $20 for seniors and students.

Where/When: , 9711 S Kolin Ave, Oak Lawn. Donations accepted 2-7 p.m. June 3; treasure swap takes place 9 a.m.-noon on June 4.

Why go: St. Germaine’s Social Justice Team will be accepting used household goods, including small appliances, kitchen and bath items, linens in good condition, towels, toys, clothing and more in the Activity Center. On Saturday, folks can stop by the church to choose from the treasures brought in the day before. Help those on a tight budget, keep stuff out of the landfills and live more simply.

Pricing: All treasures are free! Bring a friend.

 

CALVIN CHURCH GARAGE SALE

Where/when: , 10056 Central Ave, Oak Lawn, (church parking lot or church fellowship hall in case of rain), 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. June 4.

Why go: A portion of the proceeds will go to the Scherr family from Southwest Chicago Christian School whose daughter, Liza, has an inoperable brain tumor.  Come out and browse for a good deal and support a worthy cause.

Pricing: Open to all.

 

FLEA MARKET

Where/when: 4660 W 94th St, Oak Lawn, (east of the Hilton Hotel), 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. June 4.

Why go: Because there might be fleas or certainly some treasures.

Pricing: Open to all.

 

RUNNING FOR HOPE

Where/when: , W 93rd St & S Keeler Ave, Oak Lawn, 8 a.m.; June 5. Special Kids Dash (children under 12) kicks off at 9:15 a.m.

Why go: Watch, run or walk in the 5K Run/Walk hosted by the Running for Hope Association. close to 800 people had registered for the 4th annual Running for Hope 5K Run/Fun Walk, hosted by the Running for Hope Association. Proceeds from the race will support Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House near Hope Children’s Hospital. Over $19,000 has been raised already and 800 runners/walkers have registered.

Pricing: Registration fee is $25 for runners, $20 for walkers and $10 for the Kids Dash.

 

MILITARY MASS FOR VETERANS

Where/when: St. Cajetan's Church, 2445 W. 112th St., Evergreen Park, 2 p.m. June 5.

Why go: The McCarthy Group is holding a Military Mass to honor American troops and fallen brothers.

Pricing: Free, open to all.
