Lantern Theatre to Perform Sweeney Todd

A new and exciting theatre group is emerging at Marist High School on Chicago’s South Side.

Created by Marist alumni, the goal of Lantern Theatre is simple: To provide Marist students with the opportunity to participate in high-quality, innovative theatrical productions not typical of other high school programs.

This is why Lantern Theatre couldn’t be more excited to make its debut this summer with Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Cast members, who are all Marist students, are provided with a “real world” theatrical experience. Every aspect of the production, from the auditions to the final bow, is handled as it would be in a professional theatre company. The staff is made up of four real, working professionals in the business and, throughout the rehearsal process; cast members are given feedback from exciting guest-artists.

What’s even more impressive? The show is almost entirely produced by Marist alumni. Dominic Rescigno (2009) is behind the wheel as director and producer. Annie Garrigan (2008) is assistant director. Katelyn Peters (2009) is production design. Even the set is being built by Marist alums. The Marist family has welcomed Cassie Johnson, a 2011 graduate of Columbia College Chicago, to music direct.
