Oak Lawn Theater Headed to State Tournament

The Oak Lawn Community High School theater productions of Anatomy of Gray and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius each earned a first-place ranking at the Illinois High School Association Sectional Tournament this past weekend at Richards High School. 

Both the school’s drama entry, Anatomy of Gray by Jim Leonard, and the group interpretation entry, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, qualified for the IHSA State Drama and Group Interpretation Tournament. 

The team will travel to the University of Illinois at Springfield on Friday, March 25, to compete at the IHSA State Drama Tournament.

Outstanding performances in the drama are performed by Andrew Green as Dr. Galen Gray, Isabel Gudanowski as Belva Collins, Emily Harris as June Muldoon, Margaret Koll as Maggie, John Lamberger as Pastor Phineas Wingfield, Jacqueline McNaughton as Rebekah Muldoon, Samuel Ostrowski as Crutch Collins, and Samantha Ringberg as Tiny Wingfield.  Samantha Dawe, Brendan Getches, Taylor Lindemann, and Emily Salomone round out the cast.

The group interpretation is led by narrator Eric Hoppenrath with ensemble standouts Julia Boyle and Vincent Doria.  Brittany Burzinski, Katherine Ford, Anna Metzger, Lauren Montesano, Michael Olsson, and Michael Sequeira round out the group interpretation. 

IHSA All-Sectional recognition went to Eric Hoppenrath, Julia Boyle, Vincent Doria, Michael Sequeira, Kate Ford, Mike Olsson, and Brittany Burzinski.

The team is directed by head drama coach William Denton and assistant coaches Erika Buys, T.J. Kahriman, Guinevere McGahan, Theresa Wantiez and Marcus Wargin. 

The school will host a public showing of the two plays as part of their Annual Spring Three 1-Act Play performances on March 31, April 1-2, at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater. 

Tickets can be purchased from any cast/crew member or by contacting the ticket office at 708-424-5200 ext. 5920. 

A special senior citizen free performance will be Wednesday, March 30, at 7 p.m.
