Oak Lawn Spartans Stop Traffic, Show School Pride

Oak Lawn Community High School stages raucous homecoming parade down 95th Street.

Perhaps the speediest parade on the South Side, hundreds of masked Oak Lawn Community High School students marched down 95th Street Thursday evening.

The 2013 masquerade-themed homecoming parade featured school teams, clubs and community organizations, along with a cavalcade of village officials and Oak Lawn community police officer Dave, also known as the “master of traffic.”

Students threw a hail of candy to eager kids waiting curbside with open bags. We picked up all the bubble gum on the street. Some of the pieces had been run over. Winning.

"Spartans At the Masquerade" was so much better than my high school’s lame homecoming parades.
