Richards culinary team second at MVCC
For the second year in a row, a team of students from Richards High School placed at the culinary competition sponsored by the Moraine Area Career System.
The Richards students tied for second place with the team from Shepard High School. Last year, Richards won the MACS championship.
Students Rachel Johnsen, Brianna LaPapa, and Doaa Shehadeh comprised the Richards team. Other teams competing included Eisenhower, Argo, Sandburg, Stagg, and Reavis high schools.

Judges gave each team 1:40 to prepare a salad, entrée, and dessert.
The Richards team prepared a salad of grilled radicchio wedge with reduced balsamic dressing; an entrée of sautéed chicken with an orange Dijon sauce, gnocchi and carrots; and, a chocolate trio for dessert -- white chocolate cheesecake, chocolate churros and a banana peanut butter semifreddo.

Judges included Chuck Pine, executive chef and owner of Chuck’s Southern Comfort Café in Burbank; Dean Elicostas, Moraine Valley Community College culinary arts instructor; and, Mark Rimkus, executive chef at Flo & Santos Pizza and Pierogi in Chicago.
