Richards junior wins state championship

Michael McCarthy, a junior from Richards High School, this weekend won the Illinois High School Association state speech championship in Humorous Interpretation.

McCarthy became the second Richards student to win a state title in the past three years in speech.  John Zahlmann also won first place in Humorous Interpretation in 2012.

Overall, Richards tied for eighth place at the state finals. It’s the third time in the past four years that Richards has placed in the top 10.
