Thousands Without Power After Evening Storm

Thousands of Oak Lawn area residents were left without power after a brief but powerful storm swept through the area Monday evening.

As of 9 p.m. about 2,400 ComEd customers were without power as crews work to deal with downed lines or blown transformers, according to the ComEd outage map. The estimated restoration time for a large chunk of those without power is listed as 2 a.m.

Readers on the Oak Lawn Patch Facebook page are reporting  a blown transformer in the alley alley between 50th Avenue and Sproat, a tree down and a crushed car on the 9300 block of 50th Avenue and  a downed tree, fence and wires at 87th Street and Newland.

More downed trees are also being reported in Chicago Ridge and Burbank.
