Business Comings & Goings: Ice Arena Adds Jordan Moeller to Staff

Home Depot plays host to a Cruise Night and Antique Auto Show every Friday night.

and Osadolo “Ozzie” Irowa have joined the figure skating teaching staff at Southwest Ice Arena.

Moeller, a senior at Richards High School, is teaching specialty classes at the arena while he continues to pursue his own dream of winning a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. Moeller is the 2011 National Novice Men Silver Medalist and also is the 2012 Upper Great Lakes Regional Champion.

“Jordan teaches a power skating class that helps students learn how to generate power during their routines,” said Paula Bowman, director of figure skating at the Crestwood ice arena.

Irowa, a college engineering student, has given up competitive skating but offers private coaching as well as teaching his own specialty classes at the arena.

“Ozzie teaches a popular Music in Motion class that helps skaters learn to mix music into their routines,” Bowman said.

“We haven’t had a male coach on staff for at least 30 years,” she said. “Now we have two. They are a great inspiration to boys to consider figure skating.”

“They are a great addition to the program,” Bowman said. “Both are very committed to the sport and it shows.”

Bowman said the addition of Moeller and Irowa plus a transition to U.S. Figure Skating has helped boost attendance at Southwest Ice Arena.

“This summer, we have 400-500 kids in programs,” she said. “Ozzie has a Music in Motion class with 20 kids that might normally have six or seven students in the summer.”
