Eva's Bridals Back and Open for Business

Eva's Bridals dedicates new storefront one year after devastating fire.

Last Thursday, Nov. 17, on the one-year annivesary of the fire that destroyed Eva's Bridals, third-generation owner Ronia Ghusein went out and brought cupcakes for her staff as they settled into their new digs at 5269 W. 95th St.

On Monday, before invited members and village officials, Ghusein threw open the doors to the new in a grand re-opening.

Guests sampled hors d'oeuvres and drank white wine, trying to pick out a wedding dress for Audrey Hepburn.

Bringing out the ceremonial big scissors, Mayor Dave Heilmann, fresh off his trimuph playing the lead role of Billy Flynn in the Oak Lawn Park District's community theater production of "Chicago," cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Ghusein teared up as she thanks Oak Lawn's first responders and village officials for their help in finding a new space for the 45-year-old family-owned bridal shop that was started by Ghusein's grandmother, the original Eva Sweis.

"I just have to say a big thank you to everyone who extended a hand of support in the days following the fire," Ghusein said. "As we look towards celebrating Thanksgiving with out families and friends, I wanted to begin the week by saying thank you to everyone who helped us get through the events of the past year."

Despite the success of having a brand new store front, the old store just a few blocks down was very much on Ghusein's mind, who considered the old store her childhood home.

"I wish I could have both," she said.
