Mariano's, Stony Creek Promenade Takes Shape at 111th and Cicero

Developer Paul Sheridan of Hamilton Partners says new retail development pegged for early 2015 opening.

Developers are moving fast on Stony Creek Promenade at 111th Street and Cicero Avenue that the Oak Lawn is banking on attracting thousands of shoppers from around the Southland and opening a new revenue stream.

Construction on anchor tenant Mariano’s Fresh market is running ahead of schedule with the building all under one roof. Concrete is scheduled to be poured for the floors in the next few weeks.

The highly anticipated supermarket is pegged to open in early 2015, as is phase I of the shopping center, said Paul Sheridan of Hamilton Partners, the developer for the project.

“Mariano’s lease calls for us to deliver their store in October so that they can take over construction [of the interior],” Sheridan said. “Right now we’re running ahead of schedule.”

Architects for Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant are also on the site, designing a unique space for the upscale eatery and Napa-style tasting rooms that is projected to open in February 2015.

“The exterior designs will be released to the public in the weeks ahead when Cooper’s Hawk appears before the village’s architectural design and review committee,” village manager Larry Deetjen said.

Mariano’s was a big draw for Cooper’s Hawk in coming to Oak Lawn, which tends to attract big name retail tenants.

In a matter of weeks, residents driving by the development can expect to see the parking lot being poured. Other retail buildings in phase one of the development will also be “going vertical,” according to the developer.

All of the existing buildings on the 30-acre land parcel have been demolished. Work has also started on the water feature, will be incorporated in the Cooper’s Hawk layout and feature outdoor dining and sipping.

In addition to Mariano’s and Cooper’s Hawk, other retail tenants slated to move into Stony Promenade include:

  • Massage Envy Spa - Professional massage therapists offering restorative massage services.

  • Starbucks - Coffee and tea. This would be the fourth Starbucks location in Oak Lawn.

  • Meatheads - Fast, casual dining offering sandwiches, handmade burgers, fries, salads.

  • Firehouse Subs - Specializes in hot submarine sandwiches made with premium meats and cheeses.

  • Sleepy’s - Largest privately owned and operated speciality mattress retailer in the United States, according to website.

  • Great Clips - No appointment haircare services for men, women and children.

  • Construction on phase II of the development -- which will include more retail spaces -- is tentatively expected to start in early 2015.
